Very nice park for a long weekend stay. Plenty to do in the immediate area and surrounding park. Fishing, hiking, biking, swimming and enjoying the sights. Our campsite was level but a little tight for our rig and tow vehicle. Nice view of the lake from the site but would be obscured when foliage is in. Less than an hour from home so we will definitely be back. Although we were there in mid April and it was a bit cool, the campsite was full (or almost so). The park wasn't too crowded but I can see that in the summer, it will be busy there with day use. The swimming area and beach look really nice, but by the number of picnic tables and the size of the parking lot, I imagine it would be very busy and potentially crowded.

The downside to the 100 loop is that it's very swampy and buggy. Be very careful when selecting a site to make sure your rig will fit; there were a lot of shallow sites that had electric. That makes Mauthe Lake a haven for the pop-up crowd, and there were many.
Mauthe Lake Recreation Area has ample picnic space and a public beach as well as an accessible fishing pier. The shower building was in good shape and firewood is available via a vending machine at the entrance gate. The campground is well isolated from roads so the only noise you hear will be from within the campground. Great for a weekend getaway.

I came to the area to explore the New Fane & Greenbush trails (also found the easy Lake to Lake trail). It was Thursday and lots of sites were available though from the look of it the campground was completely filled with reservations for the weekend. Which is understandable as it is a lovely setting. Heavily wooded with good spacing between most sites. Many are deep, set well back from the road, particularly in loop 400. Some sites are electric, cost starts at $18 for non-electric/in-state. Loop 500 was up a hill and pretty, mostly tent campers and small pop-ups under pine trees. Access is messed up for a few weeks due to resurfacing of County Road S - signs say road closed. Best access is from the north coming down GGG. No T-Mobile signal at all.

Site 105 is right next to the lake, quick walk to the beach, boat launch, dock, playground, bike path, Tamarack hiking trail, bathrooms and water! It was the perfect site! The sunsets over the lake were breathtaking! We were even lucky enough to see a bald eagle in her nest with the baby’s on the hiking trail! Only downside to our stay was the fishing dock was closed due to it being damaged over the winter and some trails were closed due to flooding.

The campground is quite large but some privacy is maintained by pretty good siting and the woods. We stayed close to the lake on ground that had been marsh. The site pads were surrounded by marsh vegetation. We had a great view of the lake and a lot of privacy.
Toilets are of the vault type but were clean and odor-free.
This area has excellent trails for both hiking and biking - skiing in winter. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail run near the lake.
Reservations should be considered as this area is very popular.
