“Disappointing ”

NO sites are lakefront, ALL sit high above the water. Women’s showers don’t drain, you are standing in inches of dirty water from whatever is in the drain. I will going into town for a shower. Visitor center is closed and haven’t seen a host since we got here. We were looking forward to this stay…

Easy access to Carlsbad Caverns, Sitting Bull Falls and Guadalupe Mtn national park.

Nice restrooms with showers. First come fc for sites # 40 +. Was pretty full when we arrived around 3 PM, but fcfs still available in May. They were full by sunset. A little drive off the highway but no noise there.

Spent two nights with my tent in the primitive camping area of the park. $8 per night cash with drop box registration. When they say primitive they mean primitive. You have to wander around the rough gravel roads until you find a spot to set up camp. No clearly designated sites, signs, or a map of this area. Just find a place that looks good and set up. Aside from the faint highway noise across the lake it’s quiet. Though far, you are allowed to use the bathrooms and showers at the limestone campground and they are very nice and clean.

Brantley Lake State Park was our hangout while visiting nearby (and unmissable) Carlsbad Caverns National Park in late February 2024. Our second day was spent hunkered down during a red flag warning afternoon and early evening. Limestone Campground is interesting - well thought out design, water/electric worked as advertised, shower/washroom facility was clean and large. A bit of landscaping around the campground is welcome in this windswept, high desert setting. The state park - we never visited any of its facilities. The water seemed extremely low. Recommend the campground, about 45 miles north of the Carlsbad Caverns entrance.

We are enjoying our stay. It’s not the most scenic park in comparison to some of the fantastic scenery parks in this part of the U.S., but very maintained and has everything for comfort we need and we are happy we stopped here for a week with no complaints.

Loved our stay here! Spots were spaced out. People were friendly, the town is a bit far but I loved the dark nights away from lights. Super clean facilities, nice trails. Will be happy to stay again when passing though

The FCFS sites are 40 through 51 and they have W/E at each not like the State Park north of here which has none. The dump is closed but both towns north and south have free dumps just off route 285.
