We only stayed one night on our way to a boundary water canoe trip so we really did not explore the area. The only negative was the reservation process. The entire process was online and was not very intuitive/easy as we were making a same day reservation

There were no problems getting to this state park. We pulled into the dump station just before entering the campground (CG) area to get fresh water. While we were there, a park ranger stopped to check us in, including processing us for a free annual MN state park pass for disabled veterans. We followed the site signage to electric (50/30/20 AMP) only site 110, which was an easy back-in. The site was long enough for our 40’ toy hauler to include putting our back patio down and parking our F-450. We especially liked how ample trees and bushes were separating the sites, and you are well away from your neighbors. The site gave us plenty of space to set up our chairs around a nice fire pit and one fine picnic table. Get water as you come into the CG, as the spigots throughout the park do not have threads. The 300 loop has pull-throughs that will handle large rigs, with 312 being the best. We got 5 bars 4G. on Verizon. We put Starlink on the roof and got a decent signal. There was a nice shower house/restrooms where the park also sold firewood. Formal trail systems are throughout the CG and park, and we enjoyed walking our dogs. We really like the variety of RV sites for all sizes of RVs, but it's too bad the CG area has no water views.

Cell signal about 2 bars with Verizon but enough to stream movies at night. Our site was electric only; there is a dump and water fill up point at the sanitary station on the way out. $10 extra to get a firewood permit which we did not do. Mosquitos were quite vicious in late august but we would definitely stay again if in the area!

The Soudan Mine tour was limited to the surface this year due to the elevator shaft (1/2 mile down!) is being rebuilt. The surface tour was very interesting though. We visited the international Wolf Center in Ely, MN. There are several attractions about the wildlife and history of this beautiful and wild land. Nearby Bear Head Lake State Park has a beach and kayak/canoe rentals. The lake is very reminiscent of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
They also have some of the best WIFI I have experienced camping anywhere at 200+ MGBS!!

Very private and newish campground. Clean bathrooms and showers. Only 30 some sites so not the madness like at some other campgrounds. Pit and waters close walks but modern facilities can be a walk depending on your site. But we’ll worth this great and quiet place! Electricity nice too.

The campsites are roomy, level and mostly private. Campground is 2 miles north of the Soudan mine. Bathrooms and showers were clean. However there’s only one bath house for the entire campground with four showers. There are pit toilets scattered around each loop. There are water stations in each loop however you cannot connect a water genie or threaded hose to them so therefore you cannot fill your motorhome if it needs pressurized water. The same goes for the Sani dump. The only way we were able to fill our holding tank in our motorhome was the host had an extra hose coming off their Spigot. The water was good tasting but also all the Waterfill stations are on the wrong side of your camper when you’re going down the road
