“Great free camping, well maintained gravel road, no water”

Located in the George Washington National Forest these are great free sites. The roads leading to the campground are well maintained and in good condition. We camped for two nights in a pop up. About half the sites had good level parking pads for an easier rv/camper set up, and almost all had great level tent pads (just site number 5 was not maintained). There are additional walk in or boondock sites further down the dead end forest road past campground area with fire rings. The only disappointment was the water pump was inoperative and locked, which is contradictory to the forest service website. There are two pit toilets with two toilets each which were in good shape aside from some rusting on the metal seats. Toilet paper was well stocked. There is a small creek down the hill behind campsites 6 and 7 if you wanted your dog to have a lay down in to cool off. Short drive to trailheads and a few minute drive to the Cacapon River which has swim spots and fishing. All sites were well shaded except the group campsite which was in a large sunny field. We stayed during the week and only 3 other sites were occupied so noise was no issue. Decent ATT cell service throughout forest as well. If accessing with a camper or TT I would recommend entering through capon springs, wv as it was the shortest distance on the gravel, with a wider road for dual vehicle passage. The only negatives were the lack of water, and some minor trash left at the site which we cleaned up from the previous campers. Please pack it in pack it out.

Excellent campsite in the national forest. It was the perfect place to recover from days of driving. Below I share a video with a better review of this campsite:
