It’s spendy, but everything in this area is. Pay attention to the directions given when you make your reservation. Don’t take Mesquite. Arivaca Ranch to Hardscrabble is the way. The road in is quite rutted and there are a lot of overhanging branches, so be aware.

I booked this place based on the three prior reviews. That was a mistake. Steve, the owner, is a very nice guy but his place is not nice. When booking, Steve told me, in writing, that although he was having a vintage trailer gathering during the same time, that he had a nice private site for us. There are no private sites and the entire campground is kinda of a free for all with long term residents, old junked trailers and other crap. Steve had to have some guys in an old bus move so that we could get a site with power and water. There are no sewer hookups, but his helpers offer to come by with a waste tote to dump your tank. The WiFi only worked if you went into the trailer that serves as an office. We ended up leaving two nights early because of the terrible conditions. La Siesta is by far the worst RV park we have ever stayed in.

We were looking for a campground with water and electric hookups near Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. We found La Siesta Campgrounds on the outskirts of the quirky little village of Arivaca, Arizona. There's another campground nearby but having seen it, we would not choose to stay there. La Siesta overlooks a lovely valley. The grounds contain native mesquite trees and trees that have been planted. The campground has 8 level pull through sites with water and electric hookups on the upper level. The lower level offers 32 sites for dry camping. There's a sanitary dump site on the grounds. The free wifi was excellent at our site. In addition to camping sites, there are several restored vintage trailers that can be rented. These trailers are fully equipped with linens, kitchenware, etc. On the lower level, there's a pond that attracts birds. The only thing that could be considered negative is that the bath house has one toilet and shower in the same room. I believe there are plans to develop something different in the future.
Our host/owner, Steve Rendon, couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. He's made remarkable progress in the short time the campground has been operating. He's developed a following in the vintage trailer set. I have no doubt the campground will develop in the future. We'll certainly go back.
