I am an international traveller with a rental mustang. Is it safe to drive it to the shore? How can I get a permit?

The views are stunning with plenty of wildlife. It has great underwater viewing for snorkelers especially in the other cove. You can snorkel, swim, or kayak to get a view over Hoover Dam (It took me about 25 minutes to snorkel there) Skinny-dipping is common and everyone seems cool with it. Two spectacular hikes with hot springs and the Colorado River are within a few miles drive: Arizona Hot Springs and Goldstrike Canyon. You can camp here up to 15 days at a time. You want to camp near the Lake. I've heard people get ticketed for camping near or on the dirt road entrance.

We've boondocked in a lot of places and we have a 4x4 truck and our trailer has an off-road rated chassis as well as beefy off-road tires. That being said, we were still worried about getting our trailer out of here after our stay.
The final section of gravel road down into this area is very steep and very bumpy, so it's slow going and we actually spoke with a couple in a 2wd car that tried a couple times and couldn't get up the road -- their tires kept spinning in one of the ruts on the incline. Granted, their front tires were pretty worn and it was 2wd but they were pretty worried. We offered to come help try to push them if they struggled another time, but on that last route they must have navigated differently because they made it.
If your trailer outweighs your truck, and especially if your truck doesn't have 4wd, I would not come here. There are many other beautiful places on Lake Mead (like Stewarts Point) that are much more accessible.
The sites here are sloped unless you are right next to the water making it impossible to get level. If you go down to the water, use the road to the left...the road on the right side is in much worse shape.
Also, there really aren't that many places to camp -- it was a much smaller area than we expected. I'd say three trailers/vans/small motorhomes could be here in the sites not next to the water, and along the waterfront maybe 4-5 vehicles but you'd be fairly close together. It was mostly tent and car campers near the water (and day use folks) and some tents near the bathroom.
We used our 4x4Lo option on our truck and our tires still spun out a little but we made it. We left at sunrise because we were worried about encountering another vehicle on the narrow road.
I will say we really enjoyed the burros who visited, there was a coyote that ran right through our site, and we spied a big horn ram on the surrounding hills. Beautiful star gazing and spring flowers starting to burst. And it was so quiet. But, yeah, that road is kind of crazy, sites were sloped, and there are better options at the lake so we wouldn't come here again.

After finding our way to the 3 mile trek on the wash road off of 93, at night, 22ft class c rv, a few tricky spots but nothing to write home about, wide enough in places to pass oncoming traffic as was in our case, we found a relatively flat spot overlooking the water with the stars casing down, some planes on approach into LAS but not noisy, and the moon was just starting to crest the ridge line to the east. This was just a stop off on our way through but could be a stay and play for a few days for sure. 4x4 is recommendation by the signs driving in but so long as no rainfall we would do it again 2wd no problem. We plan on returning.

We have a 27' trailer towed by a RAM 1500 2WD crew cab and it was a little stressful getting in and out but totally worth it. I won't do it again without 4WD because on the way out some of the small hills are pretty steep and my tires were slipping a bit before cresting the hill. We stayed
over the Good Friday and Easter extended weekend and there was only one decent spot we could access when we rolled in Friday afternoon. Saturday morning a really good spot opened up and we moved over to it; what a spectacular view of lake Mead and the surrounding mountains. Make sure to bring everything you need; my wife forgot some medicine so she called in a script to Walmart in Henderson, NV and it took me about two hours to go there and back including a fillup for the truck. I use a predator 3500 inverter generator and was able to leave it on for as long as I needed it. We walked around and down to the water to see how loud it was but our site was so far from everyone on this generator is pretty quiet that you could not hear it until very close to our trailer. There is a lot of wind when the sun goes down but it settled down after dark and was very peaceful. As other reviews have stated there is a lot of local traffic so try to get a site away from the trail that goes in and out of the waterfront access.

During the day be prepared for this spot to be crowded with people fishing and paddling the day away. It can get loud during the day. Remember if you don't have a rig there is no privacy so that is why this spot didn't get 5 stars.
The redeeming quality is that when everyone leaves at night it is stunning. The sunset over the lake and canyon is breathtaking and the sunrise is just as amazing.
I would stay here again on a quick overnight but I think there are more secluded spots in the area for some more privacy.

It was tough. It took at least 45 minutes to get back there, and another 15-20 to set up. I tried a few spots and ended up having to go up to the pad before the bathrooms. There are a few spots coming in that could certainly use a grader, especially the narrows.
We loved it! The view is STUNNING! We had big horn sheep greet us on the high ledges and burros two of the days. It’s a pretty busy place and a lot of day traffic but everyone was super friendly.
I would note, I felt bad for running my on board generator. There’s so few people camping and such a serene view that it didn’t feel right. But we live in our rig and the daily life had to go on.

Spent a week here so far and the views have been amazing. So many things to do hike, fish, and apparently scuba. Or just enjoy the scenery. Gets busy during the day from locals diving but silent at night. Roads a bit bumpy coming in but worth it I think. Not super level spots so bring blocks

If it is raining or a chance of rain do not stay here. This is a big “secret” local spot. When we arrived there was a lot of locals swimming, cooking, and fishing. They all left and some campers came in to join us. One was a local (who ended up throwing a party all night #annoying) and the other was a fellow roadtripper who towed in a pop up. We ended up camping thirty feet fro lake mead this was so wonderful. Great sunset. In the morning the campground filled up really quick because apparently this is a huge local and scuba diving spot
