Setting, easy of access, paved sites, flush toilets, proximity of easily managed hikes, not to mention the excellent baked items available on site (local baked and available daily at 8AM) make this our favorite.

We decided to come here and check out Capitol Reef in the winter. Glad we did! $10 with senior pass. Fruita Campground is very peaceful with awesome views and lots of sites. Large herd of deer roaming the campsite. Because it is winter, there very few campers and mostly overnighters. No hookups so dry camping but paved sites. No need for lift pads. Each site has a fire ring and table. There is a dump to empty your tanks and potable water for refill. Restrooms were clean with flush toilets. We stayed in the B loop on the far end to run our generator before quiet time which is 8pm to 6am. Only loop A and B were open. C was blocked off. There was a travel trailer camper running his small generator a few spaces from us. Word of advice, if you see a motor home or travel trailer in an empty campground, chances are they will run their generator. So find a spot away from them. For some reason a couple of tent campers decided to set up right next us. There were many other spots for them to choose away from us so I didn't feel bad for them. There is a river right next to the campground and trails that leads to a vista and Indian rock art. We biked on the road to the visitor center. On the way you can visit the Fruita orchards, the Gifford house, old blacksmith shop and school house. 8 Mormon families homesteaded here and farmed apricots, peaches and apples which you can pick in the summer. From the campground is the scenic road which we drove in our Class A with no problems. Very cool to see Capitol Reef in the winter. We will be back in the summer.

Solar production was limited due to trees and canyon location. Hiking available right from the campground.

After a long day of driving, and a cold and very windy stop in the town of Torrey just outside the park, pulling into this beautiful, sheltered campground nestled within the canyon walls was like coming across an oasis.
We stayed at the end of B loop down by the river and had the soundtrack of it rushing to soothe us to sleep. Sites are fairly well spread out but probably has the potential to get a bit crowded during peak season. The orchards and horse pasture are very pretty and there are hiking trails right out of camp. Also highly recommend driving up the road a bit and doing the Grand Wash hike.

The Fruita Campground is often described as an oasis within the desert. Adjacent to the Fremont River and surrounded by historic orchards, this developed campground has 71 sites. This park has captured our hearts 💕 and was one of our favorite of Utah’s Mighty 5 (Zion,Bryce, Capital Reef, Arches, and Canyonland). Each site has a picnic table and firepit and/or above ground grill, but no individual water, sewage, or electrical hookups. There is a RV dump and potable water 💦 fill station near the entrance to Loops A and B. Restrooms feature running water and flush toilets, but no showers 🚿. Accessible sites are located adjacent to restrooms. The campsites are a little close together for our liking however sleeping under the red canyons in a historic orchid was out of this world.

I think we had the best site in the campground. It was for a smaller camper, not wide enough for a camper and truck but worked well for our Airstream Interstate (Sprinter 3500 van). Except for the smell of green wood and charcoal lighter fluid it would have been perfect.
With a park pass it was $10 rather than the regular $20.

Shady, large, paved, *slightly* level, sites. Potable water available throughout the campground at restrooms and at the dump station.
Stunning views all around. Be sure to hit up The Gifford House next door to the campground at 8am sharp for fresh cinniamon rolls and fruit pies (personal sized)

We've stayed here before and enjoy this campground. It's usually pretty busy but this year, the COVID-19 scared many people away. It was fully reserved but less than half full. The paved sites are level and many are backwards for an RV with a starboard door. Most of the sites are perpendicular to the driveway so it makes for some interesting backup situations with a larger travel trailer or 5th wheel. The dump station needs a lot of love. It didn't appear that it has not been cleaned this spring and not so smelly as it was muddy and whatever around the sewer hole.
There is much to see and do in this geographic area and it's a great place to spend a few days. Gifford House with their gift shop and pie and ice cream was closed so the morale of the camper crew fell measurably with this news. We had many deer and wild turkeys in the campground most mornings which are always a treat to see.
