The smell of juniper is beautiful and there was lots of shade. Picnic tables and fire rings provided and wood for sale for $5. It was quiet for the most part. There’s a nice trail toward the back of the park that winds through the woods to a little stream (that’s as far as we went), and you can walk up into the rock castles right through the park! Across from site 11, I think it was. Beautiful scenery, well maintained and peaceful spot. There’s a grocery store about seven miles away.

We stayed in site 20, which was a double site. Plenty of room for two small campers and two vehicles. Also room for several tents. There are clean flush toilet bathrooms with a running water sink, and also a very clean pit toilet bathroom close to the site. No hookups at these sites, although there is water to fill up tanks via a pump at the back and front of the campground.
The site was very private, with lots of scrub oak, deciduous shrubs, and cottonwoods surrounding the campsite. It also bordered a small creek, which was dry when we camped there in April.
There are beautiful sandstone “castle” rock formations surrounding the campground, and a trail at the end of the canyon that follows the creek and takes you to the higher elevations and ponderosa pine cover.
All of the sites are well-spaced. At the end of the loop, with tree cover, you can’t see any other campers from the other sites, so it feels very private. AT&T coverage in the canyon was nonexistent, although with a wifi booster we were able to acquire one bar of coverage.
Fremont Indian State Park, which is 1/2 mile down the frontage road, has an excellent museum full of artifacts from the native sites that were found in the area. Plenty of hiking trails with views of rock art in the area. Would definitely stay here again!

I think we hit this campground at the peak time to see the Fall colors. It was absolutely beautiful. We were in site 16 which is a back-in site. It's a little close to site 17, but that site was vacant our entire time there, so we had lots of privacy. I think just about any campsite in this campground would fine, but the sites in the middle on either side of the small creek were the best. Those sites had a lot of shade and they were all very roomy. A lot of them were reserved, but no one ever showed up. The ranger said that is pretty typical this time of year. There are some walk-up sites that can't be reserved that were also very nice. Lastly, there are quite a few group sites that were huge, and in my opinion some of the best sites. It might be worth it to pay the $30.00 to get one of those.
There was one bathroom that had flush toilets and the others were vault toilets. All of them were clean. No showers though. There are no hook-ups but there are water spigots throughout the campground. It was very cold at night the week we were there and everyone was using their generators. Some campers had them running all day long, so if that bothers you, it's something to think about. Even with all the generators, the campground seemed quiet. There is a hiking trail at the end of the campground and there are also lots of rocks to scramble around on. The Piute ATV trail can be accessed from the campground.
Castle Rock Campground is two miles or so from the Fremont Indian Park. We easily rode our bikes over there. The Indian Park is interesting and has some amazing petroglyphs. There are some short hikes in the area too. I believe you could see everything they have to offer in a day.
The Big Rock Candy Mountain Bike Trailhead is 5 miles down the road. It's a gorgeous flat paved path that follows the Sevier River to Big Rock Candy Mountain. Well worth it if you like bike riding. We enjoyed our stay at Castle Rock Campground and will hopefully return.

Lovely campground nestled in cottonwoods and junipers in a canyon. We will return to hike and mountain bike in area, plus explore the trails to Fremont rock art. Creek was small, narrow. All sites good.

There are a few reservable and a few first come spots. Water is available around the campground. Site 6 is a large pull through that is right by the water. Restrooms, while I did not use, are clean and well kept.
Verizon has coverage in the campground, at least I'm uploading my review while sitting in my trailer. Each spot has privacy with lots of vegetation. No signal with T-Mobile. Maybe one bar with AT&T.
There is the Joe Lott Trail at the back of the campground. It goes on for about 6 miles (not 3 as indicated on the USFS website). After about mile 4 the trail becomes harder to follow (not as well maintained or marked).

We pulled off here for a nights rest on a long drive and loved this campground. Very cool rock formations and a nice little stream that runs though the upper spots. There’s a hiking only trail as well which was great. Nice bathrooms. No cell service.

We stopped for one night but could have stayed two. The view is gorgeous, host is kind, and the camping spots are tucked away — some by a stream.
We pulled a 20-ft trailer in. There’s gravel road but it isn’t too bad. Plenty of back in or drive through options.
