We decided to take a road we had not taken before heading from CA back to Washington since it is the only one we haven’t used and always nice to see new things. Highway 3 from Weaverville, CA to Yreka, CA (in the Trinity Alps). Caution: signs advise no semi’s or cars towing trailers, and it was scary. We have a F150 towing a 27’ Airstr... more

Anyway, we came to Etna, and sure enough there is that Shell Station and RV Park behind. It looked nice, not many spots taken on Sunday, 4/28/2024 so we paid ($63 with pull thru and FHU). Level spots, nicely taken care of place, quiet. Elevation is about 2,900 ft so cooler than Redding or Ashland.
The thing is, this is off the beaten path and not on a route to some place unless one wants the adventure of what lies on Hwy 3. Southbound is likely scarier than northbound because of braking long and hard with steep drops on that side.

About 30 minutes out of Yreka and easy access for any rig. The managers were friendly and accommodating. Ask for the AAA, AARP, or Good Sam discount. The RV park is associated with the Shell station (only gas place in town), laundromat, and a storage facility. The place is fairly quiet and each site has water, sewer, 50 amp, grass boulevard, and picnic bench. All are pull-thru for any rig. The bathrooms and showers were secure and kept clean. There is good WiFi and cellular service. A Dollar General store is one block away and a small grocery, cafes, and a bakery in town. Stayed here while supporting a PCT hiker and there were several accesses to the trail driving from this location. Only negatives I can think of were mosquitos (it was that time of year), a website that 3 different search engines would not let me access because of security issues so I had to call, and what appeared to be a derelict motor home near the back of the park -eyesore. Otherwise I would stay here again if in the area.

Correct location is 41.4626 -122.8903
It is behind the Shell station and part of the Shell station, right downtown opposite the Mormon church
The sites have 9 ft of grass between them and some smaller trees
Solar should be good for much of the day
Some light traffic noise
