Yukon Trails Camping

Great campground with tons to do on site. Friendly staff. The only problem we had was it is not big rig friendly. We have a 43ft fifth wheel and had to try 3 different sites before we were able to fit in one. Trying to maneuver around the park with a dooley truck and 43ft camper was very very difficult and took a lot of time. I would return if we had a smaller camper or tent camping.

Let me start by saying that the staff is pretty great here. I appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness. The facilities, however, are in desperate need of updating!

The shower stalls were pretty tight with no shelves to put your stuff. There were plastic chairs that barely fit that had to play multiple roles. There are hooks for clothing at least. The flooring in the shower/bathroom area really needs replaced. It was dirty probably because it would be very difficult to clean the uneven surface.

I think that most, if not all, of the non seasonal sites don't have sewer hookups. They do however have a honey wagon for $5/visit, and they don't require you to be there when you pump out like other places (much appreciated).

Site 035 is pretty great. It is large, tucked back into the trees and only 1 site away from the showers/restrooms (but far enough away!). The water was pretty far away, but my 50' hose could reach.

The roads are pretty narrow and gravel. Our site was a little tricky to get into with my 34' travel trailer and neighbor vehicles across the road. In retrospect, I should have came in from the first road instead of going around the loop. Asking the neighbors to move their vehicles would have made it a snap. The dust didn't get too bad because everyone is kind and drives REALLY slow (5 mph limit).

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE WIFI. OMG, I'm so glad I didn't pay for the entire week. It was pretty much useless! We had pretty spotty reception with T-Mobile, but it was still better than the WIFI.

Weekends here are both chaos and a lot of fun. There are plenty of scheduled activities for kids and adults. The "airstrip" has corn hole and small soccer nets as well as an outdoor theatre. There is plenty of room to play catch or throw the frisbee around. The pool area is pretty small and was pure chaos on the weekend, so we didn't really hang there until during the week.

We were suckers and paid the ridiculous amount for the golf cart. I think it was $80/day or $210 for the 3-day "special". We didn't realize until too late that our 15 year old wasn't technically allowed to drive it. It was fun to tool around the resort in it, but probably not $210 cool.

The Wisconsin Dells main drag was about 15 minutes away. There are at least 4 fantastic state parks within 1/2 hour drive! Our best time was at those parks.

This was borderline 4-star, but they really need to update that shower house! We stayed through Thousand Trails, so I'm not sure how much it costs normally.

One last note. We found the dining in the Wisconsin Dells lack luster with one exception: Summer House Grill & Bar on Lake Delton. What a great lakefront atmosphere with friendly service, good food and great cocktails.

This review is a little difficult to write, and I'll be as detailed as possible because there is much to like about Yukon Trails, but also some things not to like. We have been long time state park campers, and this was our first foray into staying at a private campground. So here's the pros and cons of Yukon Trails.

PROS:
- Friendly staff.
- Nice camp store with a small supply of essential needs.
- Pretty well maintained, though our site had some litter and glitter from some previous guests' party. From the seasonal sites we saw, all of the campers/park models were in good shape and the sites were well taken care of. No signs of derelict units.
- The campground itself has a very good state park vibe. 95% of the sites are under tree cover of some kind. Most of it is tall pines, but we got lucky that our site was in a deciduous tree stand. For the most part, sites weren't stacked on top of each other. There was room to breathe.
- Quiet hours were well observed. Probably didn't hurt that it rained most of the time we were there.
- My children are grown, but I would say this is a very family friendly campground. They have activities planned for just about every weekend.
CONS:
- Not a lot of sites for weekenders. We got lucky I guess. You can't reserve specific sites online. I know that's common with private campgrounds, but government park reservation systems are miles ahead on this front.
- I had always heard how bad wi-fi is at private campgrounds, but that didn't keep me from suckering myself into buying two nights of access for $10. It was terrible. If you're data plan is good, stay with that. I did fine on Verizon data.
- For someone used to camping with electric for $45/night, paying $25 more per night doesn't seem like a good value. Granted, there is the overhead involved with running a private campground, and I've been spoiled by subsidized state parks for a couple of decades.

This is a Thousand Trails affiliate, so there may be some perks for members that I don't have access to. When compared to other private campgrounds in the area, $71 a night is not a bad deal, but I'm a spoiled state park user, so it's hard to get excited about that. I would certainly stay again if I had to, especially considering another "resort" we visited that was quite a bit slummier. That's the thing about private properties, you never really know what you're going to get until you get there.

We arrived here as a stopover on the road for a one night stay. This campground is hopping!

The bad: Sites are tightly packed, somewhat challenging to get around the park. This is a VERY busy park. There's a train that comes nearby and it can be heard even over the AC of our camper.

The good: There are a lot of activities. Multiple playground sets, old-school 80's playground equipment, swing sets, teeter totters, climbing things, jungle gyms, horseshoes, corn hole, a dig area (for a fee) where I guess you look for gems or gold or something, a train (also a fee I think) to ride, a kids pool with splash mushroom, an adult pool, an arcade, a convenience store with snacks, meals and sundries. People are out and about here enjoying the park a ton! When you pull up, this place has a resort vibe -- an older resort yes, but there's so much activity that it clearly feels like a resort. They have weekend events, a s'mores bar on saturdays, saturday morning breakfast pizzas and donuts are available for purchase and there's just a real old fashioned gathering kind of feeling here.

Internet: Verizon, Tmobile and AT&T all had decent enough service especially for a busy weekend night. AT&T had between 16-65 down and .5-3 up. Tmobile and Verizon were both more like 20/1-2 up. Reasonable and we can stream two TVs at once in the evening. Very usable.

We are in a 50amp/water site, no sewer but there's a dump site. Great park, very different vibe from the other Encore Properties/Thousand Trails type properties we have stayed at. We are TT members and can stay free at Yukon trails and other Encore Properties through the Trails Collection.
