There are a couple spots coming in that most people just used for the night. FREE Xmas tree cutting with a permit. This location has a huge easy turn around and back in for a big rig. You could also make several pull through spots. This is a dry camp but if you have a real water treatment system you have the advantage. Water is 3.2 miles down 49 @ the switch back. There is firewood everywhere you look. I also found a place further in called Bear trap meadow I believe. It would be a super place to set up camp and nobody has used it for YEARS so it’s absolutely pristine. This area definitely needs more work. I raked and burned the area for 3 days and moved large logs out of the way. There was so much wood I never used the stove. Just the camp grill. Rocks for a fire ring takes some hunting but there are around. Max stay is 14 days but you know the drill. It did snow on me the last day cut CalTrans was on it. You don’t want to be there if it snows hard so have a weather radio.
With some more work this will be a nice place. I saw only 5 cars drive past the hole time.

Bear and Mountain lions.
So pack heat everywhere you go. Keep your food in a tree if it smells. Bears will break into your car if they smell it.
Mountain Lions pass through camp at night so make lots of noise and keep pets close by.
