I love the Black Hills and this is a great place to stay free of charge and enjoy it all. Fun trails to hike and wonderful views. Minimal road noise.

“Lovely Little Place To Spend A Night”

This was my first time camping at a dispersed campsite. They had restroom facilities and you could camp with a tent or in your car. People were friendly and left you alone. There was a sweet little meerkat moving her babies next to my spot.

Overall Rating

Spent one night. Great place to walk the dog and access to several hikes. There was a fair amount of in and out traffic. Only the vault toilet. Cell service low but functional. More specifically, the phones were very iffy but our Nighthawk Router was functional. Would stay again when in the area.

We're actually camping at Horsethief Lake CG, but wanted to get this in the system for van campers and small teardrop trailers. You're allowed to camp in the parking lot for 14 days. This is great for rock climbers. There's only a vault toilet though. There are tent pads scattered around the area if you're in a tent. You can probably g... more
