Wright's Beach Campground

Enjoyed the short time here. Site #19 is next to camp host and no neighbors to other side. Since it's not a 'premium site' it was nice having a small view of the beach from this spot. Lulled to sleep by the waves crashing. No cell service until you walk about 50ft to the beach or the path to the top of the campground. Dogs must be on leash. Clean campground, great camp host and camping neighbors.

The only thing I wish they'd update is a sign letting public beachgoers know the road is for the campground only - no thru road. So many cars driving through and back out of camp thinking they can exit. All day long. Despite that, would stay again in a heartbeat.

Booked a last minute trip up to the Bodega Bay area and found a site here for a couple of nights. Site 19 was the only available which located adjacent to the camp host and tucked up against the hillside. The site could accommodate a rig up to about 28 feet and could park a vehicle next to it, but the site is unlevel. We camped in our 21 foot class B van and had no issue getting level with a couple of leveling blocks on one side. The sites are pretty small and close by one another. The bathrooms feature flush toilets and running cold water sinks and were quite clean. The premium beach sites look nice and would like to come back and stay in one of those sites with beach and ocean views. Our site had no coverage with our Verizon phones but once we walked out towards the beach and day parking improved between 1 or 2 bars of LTE. There is a great signal if you go South and up the bluff where we experienced 4 bars of LTE. The beach itself is pretty spectacular with lots of rock formations just offshore. You can take a pretty long walk if desired but the surf is pretty dangerous and there are signs warning not to wade or swim. Dogs are allowed on the beach if they are on-leash There are also several overflow sites available along the road near the entrance.

This was exactly what we wanted -- a campsite right on the beach so that we could look at the ocean and walk directly out to the sand. There's a handful of sites that open up right to the beach. They go quickly, but I was able to grab a cancelation using a monitoring service.

The site we were in was completely covered in sand, deep enough on one side that our camper wheels were doing some spinning getting in and out. It took some effort to get in and level. But it was worth it. Chilly and windy, but that's exactly what we expected. The fire helped a little bit. The fire ring had seen better days and the cooking grate was nearly completely destroyed by rust.

Sites are a bit close. There's some tree in between them and some are better than others. We could only see our neighbors to one side every so often through the foliage. Noise wasn't much of an issue since the constant wind drowned out anything else.

We bought wood from the camp host. They were pleasant folks. Wood was pricy, but about normal for a California State Park.

No dump station at the park, but you are allowed to use the one at Bodega Dunes for free. It was just a few minutes down the road and easy to access.

The road in the Wright's Beach was a construction mess. It's down to a single lane and the road that's left is all torn up. Be prepared for some bumps.

This is one of the hardest places to get a reservation. The beach front sites are booked immediately when available (6 month window) You may get a one night stay but it's rare. YES they are awesome sites that's why it's hard to get. Good luck and check frequently if you want to stay here. You can stay at Bodega Dunes State Park just down the road and day use here. But it is nice to hear the waves at night.

We live close to that stretch of coast and have been to this campground a couple of times. Read the other reviews first, I write this mostly to make visitors aware that this is a rather cold part of the California coast, particularly in summer.

Yes, this place is right on the beach and has a winding fairly steep access road. It's a small campground. Pro's are you are almost always allowed to have a campfire even in drought conditions because it's literally on the beach. Cons are you need to be prepared for 5 to 20mph winds most of the time and night temperatures hovering in the low 50ies in summer and 40ies in winter and there's almost always fog in summer. Most days the daytime temp won't go beyond mid 60ies and you have a good chance of seeing sun for 2 or 3 hours late morning and being stuck in for the rest of the day.

If you happen to be there on one of the fog-free warm nights/days it's a gorgeous place to be, if you're there on one of the more common nights for this area of coast you better have warm clothing despite your campfire.

For cell service: the coast north of Bodega up to Fort Bragg and Mendocino has almost no cell service. You may get some using Verizon but the other providers lose it shortly before you hit Bodega Bay.

PS: I marked noisy for this location - not from traffic or visitors but from crashing waves all day long. If that's your favorite sound you're good, if like me you prefer the silence of the Mohave desert you're in the wrong spot (obviously, it's the ocean)
