We landed here needing a place to camp in between destinations. California Reservations (https://www.reservecalifornia.com/web/) requires 48 hrs advance. Limits the ability to adjust on the fly - hope they change that policy. We rolled in at 7 pm and were pleased to find the entrance station staffed. The Ranger let us know that the park was mostly empty and put us in a quiet spot. There is also a self service kiosk for after hours self check in.
Beautiful setting along the Sacramento River with nice old oaks. The Rio Vista Unit of Sacramento NWR was just across the road. Dogs allowed on leash and we enjoyed a nice morning walk with lots of birds. Didn’t make it to the River, but you can get there according to the trail map at the NWR parking lot.
The restrooms could definitely use some maintenance and updates. Things were a bit grimy and run down, Free hot showers, but shared with quite a few bugs.
Bottom line: this site served its purpose and we were glad to find a place to camp at the last minute.

You can walk there but it’s a little trot. Definitely coming back

Our site had a path to the near-by river, where we chatted and read. For a treat, we went to (a very sleepy) Corning for ice cream. Clean facilities, well arranged sites. Now closed for the winter (as of Oct 31).
