Wolf Creek Campground

Nice little campground with a fabulous host, Laverne. I arrived early in the afternoon in my 25' TT, picked a site that didn't take too much leveling, and paid for 2 nights. When I met Laverne I found out the campground was supposed to be closed that day but the supervisor hadn't locked the gate. The place filled by to half full by the end of the day. I got a refund for my 2nd night but was very happy to stay at least one night. FYI there is a 'people' tunnel under the road to a picnic area on the riverside. Very cool place.

We ended up here after the blm land in Alpine at the brewery was overrun with party people and van lifers. Boy are we glad . Such a beautiful little campground in the canyon with clean level gravel spots big enough for our 27’ class A and then some. Inspiring view from down in the canyon and peaceful once the highway traffic calms down. The host Darlene was so friendly and attentive, she told us her fascinating story after cleaning up our neighbors dog poop they left out for bears to get and putting out their fire they also left smoldering. We liked it so much we came back the next day instead of staying at Gros Ventre in Grand Teton.

Traveling to Jackson to meet up with our son and daughter-in-law, we stopped here hoping for a quick overnight stop. Site #1 was a pull-through, fairly level and empty. There we met Laverne, one of the most gracious, friendly and helpful camp hosts anyone could hope to encounter. The next night, after failing to find anything closer to Grand Teton, we showed up accompanied with by our son's camper van. Laverne drove me around the campground in her car to show open sites that were adjacent. Definitely above and beyond the call of duty.

Now, for the campground: roads and sites are gravel and you might have difficulty leveling in many of them. As with most Forest Service campgrounds, there are no hookups, but water hydrants, pit toilets and garbage bins are available in each loop. The toilets were spotless, another testimony to Laverne's stewardship. Highway noise might bother some, but it dies down at night. (And for old guys like me, noise is a non-issue when hearing aids are removed.) It's certainly not fancy, but it's only a 30 minute drive to Jackson, so it served well as our home base while exploring the area.

Most people mention levelness and noise. I'll expand on those two topics.

Noise: There are 3 loops, A, B, and C. A is the first loop as you enter and is closest to the road. B is further up the hill and those sites are (mostly) a bit further from the road. Loop C is still further, on the left, up a steepish hill. Those sites are furthest from the road.

The camp host, who was extremely helpful, recommended Site 18, which is the topmost one in loop C. It did look nice but we chose site 8 and didn't feel any later regret.

We camped in site 8, which is in the B loop. Traffic noise was noticeable but didn't bother us. It is mostly during morning and afternoon "rush" hours that there is any noise to worry about.

Levelness: We had issues leveling our trailer in Site 8 even though it looked pretty reasonable. Maybe we were doing something wrong. In any case, after a few tries, the auto-leveling system claimed success. A lot of the sites were sufficiently level for shorter trailer and a bit more of a challenge for longer trailers. In any case, I felt we could have fit our 33' trailer into quite a few of the sites and still been able to level it.

Note that there's a "people tube," as the sign says, that leads from loop A across the highway to the Snake River. Also, there are three potable water spigots situated at various points in the campground, one per loop. There is no dump station but there is one at K&J's in Alpine that doesn't charge a set fee but asks for a donation.

Someone mentioned a dog running around. The current camp host has a dog but the little guy didn't run around at all. We never used the restrooms, so I can't comment on them.

One last thought... the sites were a bit weedy. Maybe that's only because it is spring and the prime growing season for everything green.

Note that we paid $7 because we have a senior parks pass. Without it, the price would be $15/night.

We stayed at 2 other campgrounds/national forest areas during our 4 day stay in Jackson. This campground is awesome. Lots of apace fairly level spots and no one around. Spectacular views. Bathrooms could have been cleaner. Watch out for the camp hosts dog. It likes to run in front of your car and the host seemed to not even try to control it. Didn’t even apologize or acknowledge us.

Let me first off state that there about 20 camp spots - and at most, there were only two other people besides myself staying there on any given night. Secondly, the camp host nicely suggested it would probably be best to park in sight 1, 2, or 11. As I was taking my pic of the empty campground...I decided I wanted to park in site 9. The slant of the hill did not seem too obnoxious however I literally ran into catastrophe trying to level. My automatic leveling system gave out when my 5th wheel pin side was high in the sky! The only way I was able to reconnect my truck to the fifth wheel was to reverse the back of my truck’s wheels up onto leveling blocks so that I could reach the fifth wheel pin to the truck hitch. I still thought I could fix the problem by using taller blocks under the front landing gears....but to no avail! After an hour and a half of this, I moved to site 11 where I had no problem. Ultimately the most level spots are one and two and I wish I just would have stayed there. I read other reviews where it was noisy to park there with lots of traffic in and out but as I mentioned above, there was never more than two people in the park besides the host and I ever. We did (my dog and I) encounter a bear on my last night. My dog was going haywire as I was trying to start a campfire. I came in to calm him down looked out all the windows but didn’t see anything so went back out to try again but the same thing happened only this time my dog would not calm down even in the house. I got out the binoculars and I saw a brown bear calmly moving around just doing his thing. My rational self knows that he wanted nothing to do with me but my irrational self, with all of the grizzly bear signs, became a little nervous - Lol. Nothing to be afraid of. Just be smart and safe and aware of your surroundings! PS did I mention yet that the canyon from Alpine to Jackson is absolutely stunning! STUNNING! All along the snake river. But NO cell reception whatsoever incase that is impt to u.

We pulled into Alpine, Wyoming on the 4th of July. The town and all dispersed camping along the lake seemed to to be full. We headed up the road a few miles and found Wolf Creek Campground. It was full but the lovely camphost offered us the overflow site at the rate of $12 / night. In my opinion, it was the best site in the entire campground. We did not have a fire ring or picnic table but that was not an issue as we have a table and a BBQ.

The overflow site is very level, large and was basically like a pull through dry site. The restrooms are across the road. We were able to pull in set up and when ready to leave there was enough room to do a u-turn. We stay an additional day and would definitely return to the overflow.

Wolf Creek campground is across the street from the confluence of the Snake river and Wolf Creek. Great trout fishing. There was evidence of bears, so be aware while fishing the river. On a side note, there is a standing wave where you can watch locals surf. This section of the river also sees a lot of rafting, kayaking and floating.

We might stay here again but we'd never pick site #1 again!

This campsite is right next to a major road running south from Jackson, WY but the highway noise wasn't too bad; as expected, it calmed down in the evening but the traffic in and out of the campground was loud and continuous. Yes, we should have driven back up into the other sites but it was late and we were tired. In addition, there was a speed bump right next to pull through site which added to the noise. Late on in the evening I walked through the entire grounds and found many lovely sites with wonderful mountain views, but they were now occupied so I was at fault by selecting the first one we came to.

We left the campsite much cleaner than when we found it, picking up paper trash, pop tops, old lighters, etc. The gravel site was level.
Remember this is BEAR COUNTRY.

We didn't check our cell phones so we can't comment on the coverage.
The cost is $15 / night but we had a Lifetime Senior Pass and so only spent $7.00

This is a gorgeous campground, perfect for boondocking with solar and has multiple pull-through sites for larger rigs. However, we ended up not staying because we work remotely and need cell coverage. When we arrived we discovered we had zero coverage with any of the providers we use: Verizon, AT&T, or TMobile. So we had to keep looking. The campsite are next to the 26 scenic byway road, which isn't too busy or loud but it's still near main road. The town of Alpine which does have service is only 7 mins away.
