I called the number listed and the woman at the county office was very friendly and took my name so the sheriff would know I'd be camping. It looks like there are a couple of options for places to camp, one with more trees and grass near the playground but closer to the road and a large asphalt area near the stables with a walking path behind it. I chose the asphalt area to be further from the road. There was a nice couple in a class B+ camped there when I arrived. I chose to line myself up against the stables, as it was a bit more level over there. Fun to watch people ride their horses out my window. Lots of good amenities within a 5 min walk including a supermarket, liquor store and a few restaurants. The only issue was that, on the Saturday night I stayed, there were a lot of locals cruising the nearby streets and bumping loud bass until around midnight or so. A couple times locals drove into the area we were camped in and hung out for a while with music bumping, which was a little unpleasant. That said, it felt safe and the county is quite nice for letting travelers rest here for free. I'd return if I needed a stop in this area but wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Still, this was a very nice spacious campground at no cost. Great spot to spend the night.

I read you have to have a permit however they just took my name and license number so that the police would be notified to not disturb me. We got in late (9pm) and left around 6pm. What a great option! The lot is quite large and there were 2 other class A RVs parked there. There are no facilities. We did notice some car noise from cars passing through or down a close street.

We spent the last night of a 3-week Texas trip at Winnie Stowell Park. It was a great way to end a wonderful time in Texas. See the blog post.

Pulled our 44ft fifth into tree shade.
Getting directly under them with. 13' 6" rig is sketchy but when no one is here, piece of cake to figure it out. Plenty of open areas also, smaller rigs no problem.
We actually had power to run AC (110v 20 amp) even though permit issuers said there was no power. Power supplies are in a bit of disrepair but if it works....I even saw 1 30 amp plug.
There was water and even sewer connects at some sites. I would assume sewer is still connected.
Obviously this park is set up for RV use, probably during events so I'm sure water is potable because each site has a spigot.
Plenty of places to eat and stock up within 2 miles.
Huge fenced play ground for kids.
Very quiet, freeway can be heard in distance.
Very few people seen in park during our stay.

We choose to park in the large parking lot for easy of leaving early in the morning. There are plenty of grassy areas under oak trees to park in. You need to be self contained, there are water faucets along the parking lot however I can't speak to weather the water is potable or not.
This park is huge stables, playground, stadium, bike paths, etc. far enough from the road that is was quiet. Written by Amy
