Spent a weekend at the Windmill Resort. Friends own a vacation home there and we reserved one of their "cabins" Arrived a couple of hours before check-in. Was a little disappointed that even though the room was ready, they charged $30 for a "early check-in". Not a deal breaker, but it seemed pretty petty, as it was ready and all of those units were empty at the time.

So the "cabins" are all connected and share walls, which are PAPER THIN. We discovered this when management thought it would be fun to put the only other tenants in the adjacent room instead of spacing us out. Said tenants broke into a full blown domestic dispute at midnight and it sounded as though they were literally standing in our room fighting. I had to step outside and ask them to stop. Thankfully they did. Did I mention the walls are PAPER THIN?

The rooms themselves are sparse but adequate for a river visit. It had two double beds, a medium size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and a small table with two chairs, one of which was broken. This is good place to go sleep and change clothes. Not built for comfortably just hanging out.

This site are right on the river which is awesome. It has a small beach adjacent to the boat ramp, which is accessible via stairs and a short but rather steep beach climb. While the resort says they are pet friendly, they do not allow pets on the beach, which kind of sucks. We did use and enjoy the jet ski tie ups right off the beach.

Unless you are customarily and early riser, I would not recommend staying on weekends when there are "drag boat" related events scheduled. I cannot speak to other weekends, but on this particular one, at 7:00 each morning, some jerk would be on the river, repeatedly opening up the throttle on the blown big block chevy drag boat, over and over and over and over again. No way you're sleeping through that. Pretty frustrating when you have to wait for them to let off the gas so you can talk to your friends on the beach. You've been warned.

So, overall, the location and river access keep this a viable weekend spot for us. However, due to the accommodations and pet unfriendly beach policy, we will definitely be exploring other options in the area as well.

“Really love the Windmill Resort!”

We had a friend that had had a trailer at the Windmill Resort since the '50s, and then pulled it out in 2006 and put in a brand new modular home. We spent many vacations there with him, and absolutely loved the peace and relaxation! The resorts across the river were crowded and noisy, but since many of the owners at the Windmill had been there for many years, it was quiet and people were respectful. His place was right in front of the beach, and we could tie up our jetskis in front of our place and hop on them at any time, as well as swim or sit on the beach. It was heaven.
