If you e stayed here before then you know it got very busy when it was free, even though it’s an absolutely huge area. The good thing now is there are much much less people there. You can easily get a spot and not be near others. It was really a nice change to see not so many people back there. They’ve put port o lets all over the place and there are several new pit toilet buildings now open.
So, yes you have to pay, but PLENTY of good spots available to choose from. I was pleasantly surprised when I drove through.

The same applies to the former Dalton Wells Road Dispersed Camping area. See also the link below with more detailed information and a map of the "park" boundaries.

About 10 minutes from downtown. So many spots available. Rough dirt road but all types of cars seemed to make it through. Fire pits and pit toilets. Beautiful desert views. No cell service with AT&T.

My husband and I stayed at Willow Springs Dispersed from 4/7 - 4/11 while visiting Arches National Park and Canyonlands. Moab is a great town and not far at all from this boondocking spot. The entrance is a bit bumpy but if you go slow you will not have an issue. We camped in our 32ft fifth wheel. We had stayed in this location back in 2019 in one of the sites closer to the entrance. This year we ventured back down the road more and we camped in a great spot just adjacent to the sign for the Dinosaur trackways. We arrived about 10 am on a Thursday morning and it was pretty full but we were able to find a spot. There is a large dumpster near the entrance and there are numerous ports-potty’s. We had only one or two other campers in our large area the whole time. It is a busy, busy area though and lots of ATV’s and motor bikes. Also very popular it’s mountain bikers. The area is extremely dusty and if you are there during a windstorm (like we were) it can be very challenging! We had sustained winds one evening of 30+ mph and gusts up to 60mph. We enjoyed our stay here very much. We have AT&T and had intermittent signal. I was able to go online and check mail, sometimes stream video, but my husband had difficulty uploading pictures. I had read on this site that they were charging but it is still free camping as of our stay in early April 2022.

Very windy, busy, but plenty of space. Good T-mobile coverage at the first section on the left, drops off badly further in. Lots of OHVs and Jeeps, can be dusty during winds. 10 miles north of Moab.

Personally, we enjoyed this location. It was lively....and that may not be for everyone. We woke to a tent camper who pulled in overnight right in front of our camp area (strange).... Cell service showed speeds that were all over the place but not reliable. This can be a somewhat loud location but that does not bother us. We needed solid cell reception to work so this was not going to be acceptable. With that said, I'd stay there again. Roads were pretty rough in areas and it's very dusty.

pros: port-a-potties! (a luxury at dispersed campgrounds & they were actually some of the cleanest I've ever seen), fire pits at all the sites, can drive all the way back & get into Arches (if you have 4WD), convenient to both Arches & Canyonlands as well as Moab, UT
cons: super rough road (doable if you take it slow), not the most quiet or peaceful

Fire pits and large spaces. Vault toilets and port-a-potties throughout.
This is an OHV area, but people this week were very respectful. I could hear them, but it wasn't a nuisance.
Had good Tmobile service.
Moab is basically a typical tourist town. But we did have a good meal at Spitfire BBQ.
Water is nearby at Lion Park. You can't fill up your rig, but you can fill containers. All the parks along 128 were open, and we were able to dump trash in their dumpsters.

We came in late September and there had to be around 100 campers on this road but there was still plenty of room and privacy.
I would say this is the best FREE location near moab and you can actually access the National Park by driving 5 miles back on the road if you have a Motorcycle or 4wd vehicle.
