Overall Rating
Stayed overnight on the trip between Denali and Anchorage. Clean. No frills. As described in other reviews, this is basically a paved parking lot with fire pits and picnic tables. But, it’s quiet and on the banks of a creek. For $20 it was a reasonable stop over.

Because this campground is located the end of the parkway, it is far from the road and very quiet. It was a welcome site to see asphalt spaces given the rain and all of the mud in the rest of the state. The pit toilets are well-maintained. The spots are double spots so you have side by side spots for $20 a night now. The salmon fishing... more
Because this campground is located the end of the parkway, it is far from the road and very quiet. It was a welcome site to see asphalt spaces given the rain and all of the mud in the rest of the state. The pit toilets are well-maintained. The spots are double spots so you have side by side spots for $20 a night now. The salmon fishing is incredible at certain times of the year and a popular spot with locals. I would avoid site 70 and those around it as it is in the middle of the pathway between the fishing area and the day used parking area.

There are few points about this campground that are misleading on campendium. 1. The campground is actually located at the end of Willow creek parkway where it dead ends at the Sustina river. 2. There are few points about this campground that are misleading on campendium.
1. The campground is actually located at the end of Willow creek parkway where it dead ends at the Sustina river.
2. The are 140 parking spaces, not campsites. There are no campsites. This is like a walmart parking lot with parking extended lines for longer vehicles (Rvs). Behind each parking space is a picnic table. Parking spaces are side by side, so if you have opposing slides and awnings you would actually take up two spaces.
I would say there is a max length of maybe 35 feet. Yes, if no one is there any size vehicle can fit, but if spots are taken it dramatically reduces vehicle length due to parking spaces being directly across from each other.
The are pit toilets and well water available. There is a host, but looked more like someone just getting a free camping spot rather than hosting. The host appeared to have been living there since the 80s.
Maybe a good spot for an overnight or weekend fishing. Paved surface to parking lot.
