Question about Wilderness State Park Campground

We're planning a camping trip to Wilderness State Park in Sept 2023 and would like a private beach site. Any recommendations? Preferably full hook up. Thank you!

There is only 18 sites that have full hook-up and they are not really private. The beach is about 100 yards from the site’s. They are paved sites and nice however they are hard to get reservations for. We have tried numerous times to get one and its near impossible to obtain. You should go to goggle earth and you can see the sites. We prefer to camp in the upper campground as it is away from the water and not as popular. It is a well keep park and usually in September the upper campground is pretty much vacant. Also we like it because it is well wooded and not as windy as the lower site’s. The weather can be very unpredictable and cold in September. Good Luck and safe travels!

Wilderness is pretty place to camp no matter which area you are in. As stated there are only a few sites with full hookups and they are hard to get. Try 8am the morning of 6 months prior to your dates you want. In none available the reservations site does have a feature that notifies you if a site becomes available on your dates via email. The notification is not site specific. We have gotten nice sites by checking every notification. If someone cancels a reservation, you will be notified. Full hookup sites do have some trees between you and the water. In September the weather can be nice and warm or very cold and damp. Nights are generally cool. Note that there are no rest rooms with showers or flush toilets in the full hookup section. Pit toilets in adjacent tent camping area.
