There is some freeway noise and a train track nearby. There must be train silence from midnight to 7am since the train did not blow its horn during that time, so you can get a good 7 hours sleep.
Giving it a 4 star for the little bit of noise and that they do have goat head weeds that are very sharp and get stuck in your shoes, so just be aware of that.
Would stay here again.

A kind gentleman named Moises and his wife Lully own this RV park. Moises greeted me upon arrival and we walked to the office so I could check-in. He asked for my name and then began writing it in a large book. It immediately became clear that there was no record of my reservation. This was quite surprising given that I had called 2 months earlier to make one! Luckily there were plenty of spaces available. Moises had mentioned that they bought the park recently so perhaps they are just learning the ropes. He has added a nice dog park and planted quite a few trees. We stayed in dirt pull-through full hookup site #41 and it was level. Good water pressure and the 50+ cable channels were nice. At first the free wifi was slow but on our last day it suddenly became blazingly fast. It turns out that a fiber wifi system upgrade was completed on our checkout date, so this should bode well for future guests. My AT&T phone had 2 bars and the hotspot wifi worked ok. Park bathrooms and private showers were super clean. Office has books so we donated a few of ours for others to enjoy. The McDonald Observatory and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are about an hour away from this park. We visited both during our stay and they were awesome. Warning: loud trains blow past this place 24 hours a day so make sure to bring your earplugs!

The train that comes through is super close and blew its horn twice in the night. Lots of freeway noise.
But it is a very clean and easy on/off RV park for an inexpensive overnight during a long haul across the state.
They accepted Good Sam and gave a small discount. WiFi and cable worked too, which was a plus.

We called in advance and were told they had plenty of sites available, and they did. The park has two sections and the one "across the street" had plenty of room for our rig and the car on the dolly. WiFi was a little weak but workable for us. Everything looked clean and in order.

We had made a reservation over the phone for our one-night stay, but when we pulled into the park, they didn’t seem to have a record of it. The gentleman at the office simply wrote down our name and phone number in a guest book, took our payment (he honored our Good Sam membership based on just my word that we had one), gave me a very basic map (no individual sites were on the map), and told us we could take any of the pull-through spots across the road (a small access road splits the campground in two). So it worked out, but I wonder what would have happened if the campground had been full.
The sites in the section are on hard-packed dirt with some patchy grass, are level, and long enough to leave your tow vehicle attached to your fifth wheel (we have a 37-foot fifth wheel). In addition to the full hookups, they also provided cable TV, although we didn’t use it.
The park does have a small fenced dog run, but the gate latch didn’t work so you couldn’t full secure it, so we kept our dogs on-leash while in there. That was one of the few places we could walk the dogs and not have them pick up sharp little burrs in their paws: all the grassy areas along the road and near the dumpsters were full of them. So really not a great place for dogs.
The other big negative was the noise from both the road and the nearby train tracks. The trains blow their horns as they approach town, and there’s no real way to drown them out.
On the positive side, the Verizon cell service was robust. The one speedtest I did with my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna, pointed north, showed between 50-75Mbps down and 17Mbps up, more than enough to stream TV. I didn’t remember to do a speedtest with my AT&T phone (it was a long day due to a major detour on our route).
We used the bathrooms once, when we first arrived, and other than being pretty dim given it was still daylight they were adequate. Each had two shower stalls.

We found this gem after a disheartnening experience at Big Bend Ranch State Park. After driving up to Van Horn from Presidio, we called Wild West to see if they had any vacancies for the night the staff was super kind and informative, both during the call and upon arrival. While our Honda Pilot couldn’t compare to the rigs inside the park, we still enjoyed the wide pull through and the water spigot right next to us. Our price was cheaper because we were just a car and we got to choose our own spot. If you have a TV, they have tv access and they offer free wifi. They also have laundry access for $6 and their bathrooms are very clean. We would caution you if you are easily awoken by highway noise or train noise, but it was fantastic despite the noise. If we’re ever on I-10 in this area again, we’ll definitely stay here!

This December, we were on that long, long haul down I-10 and looking for a place to stop for the night. There are several similar campgrounds in town, but I'm glad we opted for Wild West RV Park. It was a delightful surprise with just about everything you'd need for a stop.
PROS:
- Immaculate bathrooms. They looked newly remodeled and were SUPER clean!!
- Super easy access to I-10
- Nice long, LEVEL, pull-thru spots (you won’t even need to unhook your toad)
- Full Hook-Ups at all the sites
- Terrific price at $27 (plus an additional 10% discount for Good Sam or 15% off for military)
- Slick, easy-to-navigate website with all the relevant info
- 4 bars Verizon LTE
- The young man who checked us in was super nice & he told us to pick whichever open site we wanted (giving us more than enough room to maneuver our rig)
- They have a fenced pet area with a shaded bench to sit on, doggy poop bags, and even a trash can so you don't have any excuse not to pick up after Fido
- WiFi, TV, and laundry (however, we didn’t use them on our brief overnight stay)
- They had a one page flyer with the bathroom codes, TV channels, and even a list of the local restaurants
- This RV park was exceptionally clean!! You can tell the management really tends to this place and takes pride in it. There wasn't even a scrap a paper/litter in the campground (a rarity in windy West Texas)
- Simplified after hours check-in process if you arrive late. It's posted on the office door and on their website
CONS:
- Yes, you are going to have some road noise or the occasional train come by. It's right next to I-10. But so are ALL the other campgrounds in Van Horn. So it's really hard to avoid or even complain about it.
OTHER THOUGHTS:
- Overall, this place is a real gem and super clean. All the water spigots were insulated for the cold winter nights and where else are you going to get FHU for $27/night?
- Van Horn is only 10 miles from from the Mountain / Central Time Zone border. So, you are coming from the west (AZ or NM), be prepared to lose an hour on the clock right before you get there. Don't worry if you miss their normal business hours though. The park's after hours check-in process is posted on the office door.
- There's no online booking through their website. But honestly - I doubt they need one. The campground was only 50% full, someone actually answered the phone when I called, and they have after hours payment instructions. The majority of the people staying here seemed to be one-night stopovers too. After all, it's not like Van Horn is a major tourist hub.

Super nice people. Great restrooms and showers. They put us across the street, which had really wide sites. Great water pressure. Excellent WiFi, and super cable. Easy in and out from the freeway. Sites are all dirt. We are a 40' RV towing.
