Wichita Ridge Campground

We stayed at the end of March. Days were windy to varying degrees but the sites on the hill had windbreak shelters and trees so the wind was not a problem. Sites are small, would accommodate up to 30’, not all are level. Sites on the hill had electric and water, sites on the lake did not. Pit toilets, as mentioned by others, were dated and in need of repair but in March, were tolerable. No fire rings, but there are grills. All roads are paved. Grounds are clean and well kept. Host was helpful and friendly.

Stayed for a week in October and it was pretty quiet, a bit busier on the weekend. With my access pass it was $7 a night for an electric site, or $6 for non-electric. If you pay for 6 nights you get the 7th free. Some sites have water and electric. We didn't use the bathroom so I can't comment on the condition of them. Wasps surrounded our trailer in the afternoons. Lots of mosquitos. Nice camphost. Not much shopping nearby but Wichita Falls, about 40 minutes away, has everything you might need.

Camped here on an unseasonably warm weekend in November. Sites are FCFS and cost between $12-$14, the latter for elect/water. Only sites >18 have electricity and only a handful of those have water. However, water access is available at the pit toilets conveniently spaced throughout. As you guessed by the title the pit toilets are dated and a little grungy. Having used pit toilets throughout my military career, I have pretty low standards.

Moving along. The camp itself is really nice with the primitive sites having the best lake access. Site 19 is the exception of having lake access and electricity. Due to the time of year it was mostly vacant. I counted 5 or 6 tops. Boat ramps are available just north of the camping area. I was able to drop my paddle board in right on the edge of the site.

Definitely recommend if you are trying to transition from full amenities to primitive camping. Cleanliness took a hit as I mentioned and noise only because it was duck season with sporadic gun fire throughout the day. Make sure you provision prior to arrival as the nearest grocery store is about a half hour drive.

We were going to Carlsbad from Missouri and this was a halfway point. It was off the interstate a little ways but worth it they had about 30 sites site 18 to the last one had electric and some had water hook ups. You are sitting right on the lake so it’s beautiful to wake up to and sip coffee. I believe every site has a fire pit there and wood was chopped and by the lakeside. We would have stayed another night it just didn’t fit into the schedule. If you want a quiet spot this is it I think there was one other RV there. We only have a pop up camper so it was a perfect little spot for us
