“Miles of Privacy”

Overall Rating

NAVIGATING: White Mountain Rd is a 24 mile stretch that takes you along the Pilot Butte Wild Horse Scenic Tour. It runs between Green River and Rock Springs near I-80. We recommend entering and exiting the road from the town of Green River. The road that leads up from Rock Springs is quite harrowing. It is very steep with lots of switchbacks. We would not recommended for rigs of any size.

GETTING SITUATED: There are paths with several turnouts all along this stretch of 24 miles with numerous boondocking possibilities. If you are looking for privacy when boondocking, this is a great location. Many of the RV's we saw had taken off down one of the paths far away from the main road and had almost total privacy. There are many spots with beautiful views. We chose a spot right near a cell tower that sat along a bluff overlooking Green River. We had the place to ourselves and it was very quite.

THE SCENE: This stretch of road is known for viewing wild horses. We only stayed one night, and sadly did not see any horses, but apparently they are easy to spot with a drive down White Mountain Rd. Like much of Wyoming, it can get very windy.

STUFF TO DO: Wildlife viewing is a main attraction here. You can also find services in nearby Rock Springs and Green River.

HIKE FACTOR: There are a lot of stretches of road here to be explored.

GEEK FACTOR: We had Verizon and AT&T signal. There are 24 miles of road with camping turnouts here, so the signal varied a lot as we went through, but Verizon always seemed to be the strongest. No T-Mobile or Sprint.

Verizon: 9.05 MBPS down/8.11 MBPS up
AT&T: 0.11 MBPS down/0.23 MBPS up
Sprint: 0.00 MBPS down/0.00 MBPS up
T-Mobile: 0.00 MBPS down/0.00 MBPS up
