A very sweet lady, I believe her name was Lynn, checked us in. She handed us a map, showed us where our site was and said to let her know if we needed anything. Pure southern hospitality right there! They have some really cute yard art scattered around. The park has paved interior roads and big white gravel at sites. The nice kind of gravel that you don’t track into your RV. Interior roads are a bit tight for larger rigs, and we snagged some trees that need trimming. Sites are nearby and some have a bit more space than others. Our site was long and mostly level. Each site has a picnic table on the grass. Satellite is possible in some sites. There is no cable but there are a few OTA channels. The WiFi was too slow for us so we used our Verizon hot spots (4g 4bars). There is only one dumpster, and it is up near the front. There is definite traffic noise since the park is right off I-10. All the reviews I read and no mention of the train tracks right behind here – at a crossing – where they blow the whistle every time? We heard a couple during night and quite a few during the day. Honestly, sounds like they are coming right through the park. We were there on a Saturday morning, and they had a food cart serving specialty coffees and some breakfast items. Not sure if this is a regular thing or not. Push come to shove, we’d stay again; however, between the highway and the trains it was too noisy for us.

Enjoyed our night here while traveling the I-10. Quiet park. Nearby train but didn’t phase us and stopped around 10 pm. Hosts were very nice.

Friendly staff in office; also someone guided us to our site. Nice long, level, gravel sites, FHUs, laundry, dog park, horseshoe put, pavilion, playground, picnic tables, shade trees if you want them - we were given a choice; convenience store, fire pits, firewood and propane for sale, RV repairs available if needed. Free WiFi for overnight campers; subscription for others. No swimming pool if that’s important to you. Close to I-10 so noise could be an issue if you are sensitive to that. Verizon and ATT signals are good. Portable Dish worked well. Good Sam discount. Near the Painted Churches of Schulenburg. We’ll keep stopping here when traveling I-10.

We stayed here overnight while on our way to another campground. It looks like this is a former KOA campground, as they had a lot of the typical yellow KOA signs but with the “KOA” logo in the corner covered. The roads in the campground are asphalt, while the site pads are covered in large stone gravel. The patio area of each site is grass and has a simple fire pit and picnic table. Our site was fairly level.
The campground has a decent-sized dog park, with motion-detecting lights that made it easy to keep an eye on the dogs while in there late at night, a playground, a souvenir store in the office, and a propane refill station. The staff were nice and attentive: the guy in charge of propane refills noticed me drop off my cylinder near the tank and started filling it before I’d even finished making my request for a refill at the office.
The biggest negative about the campground is the road and train noise (especially the latter). The road noise is to be expected since the campground is right off of I-10. The train track is somewhere behind the campground: you can’t see it, but you can hear the trains trundle by. Worse, the trains sound their horns as they go by, and no amount of white noise you have going in your rig is going to drown that out. I heard a horn around 10:30pm before going to bed, and one around 7am the next morning (a Sunday). If there were any other trains overnight they didn’t wake me up.
In terms of cell service, the best speeds I got on my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna during our stay was around 25Mbps down and 20Mbps up, and those speeds were pretty consistent, resulting in nearly flawless video streaming. The one speed test I performed on my AT&T phone showed 100Mbps down and 5Mbps up. I did not try the campground WiFi, but I noted the presence of a few WiFi towers/poles within the campground.
Gas, groceries, and fast food can be obtained in nearby Columbus, a few miles east of the campground on I-10.

Weimar, Texas is probably not on your destinations list for Texas this summer, but if you need a place to spend a night or two, it will look pretty good as you roll down Interstate 10.
Whispering Oaks is a friendly park with spacious, pull-through sites. The reservation system is easy to navigate, and check-in was effortless. You deal with family here, and it's a friendly place to stay.
Good news/Bad news: It's very close to Interstate 10, so access is very easy, but there's also a fair amount of highway noise. I'm a heavy sleeper, so this doesn't present a problem for me. Neither does the proximity of railroad tracks just to the north of the park. They were about 900 feet from our site, as the crow flies, and there are several trains in the night. I grew up close to tracks, so that didn't bother me, but you might have concerns.
Nice people, basic park, and reasonable prices.
