Grazing land next to campground with cattle roaming through the campsites leaving cow pies. Priced too high

Mostly shady with a nice nature trail between Wetmore and Yellow Pine campgrounds. Wide, well space campsites, the largest site is probably #1, and it looks like it would work well for wheelchair use and #4 may also be wheelchai accessable. There are a couple sites big enough for 40ft plus length. However, there appears to only be one vault toilet that was very low on TP during our stay. We had 3 bars of 4G on AT&T. The first four sites are larger but closer (300 to 400 ft) to the road but in our motorhome we barely heard any noise. The lower spur has sites that are further away from the road but appear to be better for smaller rigs and are far enough away from the toilet that some campers choose to drive up to it. This campground has no hook ups or garbage, pack it in, pack it out. We only found one water spigot near the toilet and it doesn't put out a lot of water. The price has gone up to $15 per night but we payed half with a senior access pass.

Nothing special but it was quiet and clean. The animal sounds you hear are cattle, not bears ;*)

My son & I took a little weekend trip to get away from the triple-digit heat of the valley and were not disappointed.
We were not originally planning to stay here, but because our trip was last minute and we didn't feel like taking our chances not sure if something would be available without reservations, we thought we would take a chance.
The back-in sites were just the right size for our 26' motorhome, complete with solid picnic table and fire ring as well as flattened area for a tent if we had wanted. There is ample room between spaces so that, even if we had neighbors, we wouldn't be too close. I was surprised that there were only 2 other campers who showed that night, but I don't know that it is all that well known.
The accessible nature trail between the two campgrounds (Wetmore & Yellow Pine) was wide & well kept. The campground didn't seem to have had much attention lately, either by campers or by staff, but it was nonetheless in good order. The vault toilet was clean and not graffiti-ridden.

Wetmore is one of three in a row on the north side of Highway 26, 12 miles west of Unity. We stayed one night on October 5. Just us and the stars. A little road noise from the few trucks that travel this light stretch at the edge of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.
Vault toilet hadn't been serviced since the CG closed on September 15, but it was still nice smelling and clean. Sites a little less than level but wider than normal and sited well.
Free is a great off-season price, and we felt more comfortable here since it was deer hunting season than if we had tried to boondocks further into the woods.
