Great location, easy drive to Napa and Sonoma day trips.
The only thing I found disturbing, sign at entrance will say "campground full",
Only to find out in the am, that out of the 47 sites 27 were empty.
Try calling for available sites
Familiar story over and over

Access roads in are pretty twisty. The site was perfectly level side to side with some shade. The camp host was very nice. This place is a good alternative to Doran Campground if you can't get in there. Note that this one doesn't have direct beach access but it does have excellent bay views and birding.
It was completely dead during the week with maybe 3 or 4 sites occupied. It filled up pretty good on the weekend. Potable water spigots are spread throughout the campground and the dump station is functional. Propane is available at the 76 gas station a few minutes away.
There was a loud ship navigation boop noise periodically during our stay that was super annoying. You can hear it from the whole bay by design.

To me the first rows 36-through the 40’s are the prime sites. Nice base camp for your Bodega Bay activities. Internet was spotty, bathrooms are ok, men’s bathroom were not kept up like the women’s I heard. Dog bags available...generator times are enforced! . And an overall nice and relaxing stay. Quick and awesome getaway.

In early March, the weather was trying: Windy and cold interspersed with mild and almost warm. Most everyone was there with a huge trailer and pickup truck. We were there in an old VW.
Oh, and the “unreasonable camp host” (mentioned in another review) is long gone. They change every couple of months anyway.

We arrived mid-afternoon to site 1 and parked on an even park pad with shade trees. We unpacked and settled in and before long it was 6:00 pm and time to start our generator to charge up our phones and computer for the night. A half an hour later there was a loud banging on my camper door. I asked who it was twice with no response. The third time I asked, a woman's voice screamed, "Camp Host". I opened the door to find the host asking me why I had my generator on and if I was charging a television? A bit perplexed, I explained what I was doing fully aware of the Generator Rule of use between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm. She then proceeded that there was additional "etiquette rules" and how inconsiderate it was for me to use such a loud generator at this time of day. I explained how my husband has just bought it and chose this particular brand because it was quieter than others. She dismissed what I said and offered that there were others generators that were much quieter than mine. She further said it was too loud and wanted me to immediately turn it off. I told her I would in 15 minutes. She then asked if I could imagine how terrible it must be for others who are outside sitting by their campfires to hear such a noise. I again explained that I needed to charge necessary equipment and told her that I would turn it off in 15 minutes. She asked that I read the additional "etiquette rules" posted at her site. She pointed out where her site was located and how being a host because she gets the site and wood for free. After turning off the generator I made my way to the host site to read their rules. At that time, her partner was returning in his golf cart complaining about another camper who was using a generator and how inconsiderate it was at this time of day. The etiquette rules essentially wants all campers to consider how the noise and exhaust might offend others and to make the best decisions to keep peace. Essentially, you can use a generator during the hours of 8-8 UNLESS it may offend someone sitting by the fire or staring at the bay. I realized that the camp host site is very CLOSE to Site 1-4 and unless you have the super duper humming generator, don't bother with these sites for your sure to get a a crazy loud mouthed host complaining about the noise!!!

Nice view of the Bay if you score a site on the outer edge. Otherwise will only see other RVs. There’s a horn that goes off all night that can be heard through ear plugs. Quiet hours aren’t strictly enforced. Had neighbors hollering til midnight. $7 to use dumping station. Site was black top and level.

Bodega Bay is a beautiful place. The hikes, the food, the small town vibe...all of it is wonderful and will play host to our family again, no doubt.
The RV Park is paved with water hook-ups, bathroom facilities and a dump on site ($7). The bathrooms are basic, but clean. They could use some updating, as it seemed they had quite a bit of traffic during our stay. The paved sites were level and easy to access. The entrance to the dump was a bit narrow, but not too tricky.
The RV park is a quick bike ride away from the Marina. It is also very close to Sanoma Coast State Park where the hiking trails are easy, and the views are stunning. The town boasts an adorable kite and candy shop, a few places to eat and a small market. SUP boards can also be rented in town for those who want to take advantage of the wind and high tide in the bay.
One point of frustration was when we tried to extend our stay. The camp host said that we had to call the reservation line to add nights, however when we called the line, they told us to reserve with the camp host. This took an hour of phone calls and relaying messages back and forth between the host and reservation line. It almost wasn't worth two extra nights to deal with the disorganization. If not for the access to the incredible State Park, we would have bailed on our plan to stay longer.
If you plan to stay, and expect to use your generator, be prepared to be asked to turn it off. Though the generator hours are posted, all it takes is for a neighbor to complain. The camp hosts call the local ranger (totally unnecessary) and not only do they shut you down, but will come back to check several times. When we challenged the instruction to stop our generator during generator hours (it was mid-afternoon), we were told that complaints trumped postings. Seemed rather silly to us, but there wasn't much we could do about it. This might not be a big deal for most, but if you work remotely and depend on having 24/7 access to batteries, plan ahead. We suspect that we just had a stroke of bad luck with some cranky neighbors who wanted a completely quiet experience (totally fair, we get it) but because the camp host and ranger honored the complaint, it's good to be prepared just in case you run into a similar situation.
Despite the reservation and generator hiccups, we really enjoyed our stay. The location made up for any frustrations we experienced!

The campground itself isn't anything to write home about - just the basics plus clean bathrooms - and it's annoying that you have to pay extra to use the dump station, but the location is hard to beat.
The campsites are situated right on the water, with a narrow beach for campers to enjoy. It's a half mile walk/bike ride to the main marina where you'll find two really good restaurants offering seafood, beer, and wine for reasonable (for California) prices. For all of the essentials (groceries, beer, ice), the town of Bodega Bay is just a short drive/ medium bike ride away.
What's most special about this place is the proximity to Bodega Headlands. Definitely visit this park during your stay! There are a few miles of hiking trails, amazing coastal views, and beach access. For the best views, go just a little before sunset to see the coastline lit up with the golden light of magic hour. We visited during April, which turned out to be an ideal time for whale-watching and we basically just had to look at the water to these giants migrating northward.
We made reservations in advance via the Sonoma County website, and then extended our stay by moving to a first come first serve site for a few extra nights. If rolling without reservations is your style, your best chance to nab a space will be to show up midweek as this place was completely full on weekends. The check-in process is a bit unusual as there's no self-pay station and the camp host doesn't handle payments or reservations. Instead you just find your spot, park, and wait for a ranger to eventually show up and collect a fee/ give you a tag for your rig.
