First, don’t assume one of those nice big flat level pads is what you will be assigned, you might get number 6, or heaven forbid one of the ones up top facing the lake. With those you won’t have half the leveling pads needed to get even close to level. Ridiculous! Does the front desk care. Not from my observation. This was the worst spot assignment I’ve had from here to Alaska and back, even while they had six perfectly level, full hookup, spots available.
No camp host, pad assignments you can’t use (number six) in particular, and an “oh well,” attitude by the contractor running the place and you might get my point. It gets two stars only because it has so much potential. Hard pass next time I head this way.

We had an amazing time. There are cement pads we had 50 amp Full hook ups. Playground is walking distance. We were right by the bathhouse but never used it. The grounds are gated in and will lock after hours. They give you a code to get through the gate.

Tips - Get there early as there are no street lights leading to the turnoff or within the recreation area; don't be that guy who arrives after dark. If you are a Starlinker, be choosy regarding your site.
Favorites - The trees, lake, flat and long sites. Close to Fort Jackson
Negatives - Really hard to get anyone on the phone to make the initial reservation. Ground bees (Carpenter I think were vicious). South Carolina highways and roads rank right up there with I-10 in AZ.

All of the sites were large with concrete parking pads. If you stay here, you best be ready for the bugles on the loudspeakers. Not sure why they need to sound off in the campground, but they do 12 times a day and they are loud!
Good spot for Starlink usage.

Maintenance and upkeep here is t the greatest but the campground isn’t too shabby and it is great for the price. The pads are spread out so you can get some relative peace from your neighbors.

I was stationed at Jackson from’07-‘09 and the only thing that has really changed is the dam is being worked on so you can only observe the lake, no swimming, boating, anything on the lake until repairs are completed. The receptionist said they’ve been working on it for maybe 4 years. Hopefully it’ll be completed sooner than later. The grounds could be kept up a little better as could the restrooms/bath houses but I imagine they lost some revenue due to the lake being closed for dam repairs.
There isn’t any concerns getting back here, the biggest rigs will not have any problems. All sites are large concrete pads, FHU. Most sites are spaced very well, some better than others but you won’t be on top of anyone whichever site you’re at. They have a large concrete patio area, nearly the size of the pad itself with a picnic table and fire pit/grill and stand alone grill.
Verizon cell coverage is adequate. I had 2 bars and LTE, sometimes 5G. Not like being in the city but sufficient. No wifi.
There are cabins and tent sites as well. This isn’t a large campground but there were still a few open spaces.
There will be various bugle calls throughout, morning, day and night. You may hear firing range training going on in the distance. You should expect this and it should not be seen as negative, you’re on a military campground.
Current RV site price a night is $35, if you have a National park pass it’s $32.50. Despite the lake being off limits right now I will still come back. Once it’s opened back up I’m sure it will be more busy, right now it’s very peaceful.

The RV sites were mostly back-ins and on a sparsely wooded hill. The paved sites made it easy for us to stay balanced while still being hooked up to our truck. The hookup pedestals were the nicest I've seen.
We stayed at site # 16. My husband enjoyed spending some time and eating with a military retiree named Jim staying at the campground. Nothing like the ease that comes from conversation with someone who automatically has so much in common with you.
The lake is very nice with a clean beach. If we had more time we would have rented a canoe to do a little more exploring. I'm confident that everyone in a family would be able to find something they could enjoy to do at this campground.
Being veterans, we did a little walk down memory lane when we heard the live fire from a closeby range at 8 a.m. The 50 cals and M4A1s didn't bother us a bit, but I think anyone who wanted to sleep in would find it difficult at this campground.
