Westgate Landing Park Campground

I drove down from Sacramento to scope this out as a possible quick getaway place. The site itself is as others described. Not great, but at least it is not at all busy. Much more a tent camping place than an RV place. Not a place for a long rig, though there is a turnaround at the end. Some sites have nice shade. Caretakers were friendly and waved as I drove through to have a look.

What is truly grim is the road into the place. You drive by multiple industrial sites down a road that ends, then you keep going down a washboard road. That feeling you get when you're going to a lovely remote spot that gets more and more wild? This is the exact opposite. Like a sinking feeling. Not the feeling you want when you are trying to get away from the gritty city.

It's slightly possible that I will camp here overnight at some point, and I will update this review if that happens.

I picked this location as a convenient stopping point after a day of driving. Pulling off of interstate five it’s about a 5 mile drive and then about 2 miles down a dirt road. I got to the location just about to sundown to find the gates closed and the park sign indicating it was not open. apparently at this time, the park is only open from sunrise to sunset. I ended up having to turn around and find another location. 47 miles further south. Not a great thing to have to do after dark.
