Bug spray is definitely recommended! The night was cold, so pack plenty of layers, blankets and a sleeping bag. The day gets rather warm, and there aren’t any trees, but this is a good overnight stay — it is just 9-10 miles on a paved dirt road and you’ll have to head back the same way to get back to the highway.

It was in March so no mosquitoes and no other campers. It is probably pretty busy at other more summer times. Access is good and will accommodate any size rig, but not a lot of flat places to set up. It is a wide open gravel area. There is a nice $8 per night BLM campsite a little further down the road.

“This 'campsite' is just a large sand lot off the side of a gravel road. ”

Not really a campsite so much as a sand lot. Bad bad mosquito problem, no access to water or firewood and you run a risk of getting stuck in the sand (we did) w/out 4WD. Locals use this site mostly for ATV play, not camping.
Better off paying the $5 to camp at one of the BLM sites down the road.
