Even with that I felt completely safe. I must’ve hit a pothole as I passed over the cattleguard near the entrance to Wee Thump rd and it took off the base of my hitch post. I found it in the dirt at the cattleguard the next morning as I left. I’d stay here again, but would be very careful going over that cattleguard.

I arrived on a Saturday and it looked pretty full. The bigger spots within the first mile were full. I drove another ½ mile (the road was a little sketchy at points) and found a big site that was empty. A few vehicles drove by but mostly quiet.

Coordinates 35.51, -115.05505. Quiet, only one other camper here, with very little noise from the highway. You can drive further north to Coordinates 35.51407, -115.05582. I took my trailer to this spot, but there were already 2 other campers there, so really no room for us to camp.
There are more sites further in, but definitely scout ahead to make sure you can get there.

& the best one is not for anything but tent camping, & no car or truck should go here,
35.57993, -115.0534 We went here on an OHV. This spot is incredible, with views of mountains and valleys for miles. If I can figure out how to do it, I will add a picture or two of that view.
You will not be disappointed in this site, unless you don't like Joshua Trees. I rated it at 4 stars, because it doesn't hold very many campers/trailers.

Stayed here for a night on the way to Vegas. The Joshua trees were beautiful and so was the sunset. Our 25' class C RV handled the large cattle grate and dirt road just fine.
We stayed in the large open area just past the windmill.
T-Mobile service was fast enough for web browsing but not for streaming.

Area was clean. Views beautiful. It was great to wake up among Joshua Trees.

This is our 2nd time here, thoroughly enjoyed the quiet and open horizon sky. Off the hiway about 1/8th mile. The road is passable for our C - motorhome.

Cell service is not so great even though there appears to be a tower close by.
The roads in are very good for BLM roads. A bit narrow though but not a lot of traffic on it. There is a landing at the entrance by the windmill if you're just looking for a quick spot. Or a bit further up is another spot and further yet there is a much larger spot. Recently though certain areas were blocked off from off road access so if you're planning on bringing up your OTV to tear through the desert, go somewhere else. This place is beautiful and is being protected.
It is dead quiet out here and the sunsets are beautiful. You can see the glow of Vegas 60 miles to the north.

Wee Thump Road is a little more than 8 miles west of Searchlight. You'll have to look sharp to see the old windmill about 1/8 mile north of the highway -- the blades are gone leaving nothing but the frame -- but look for the stop sign at the road. Road is ungraded dirt but firm and level enough for 2-wheel drive. We found two campsites, one at the windmill/cattle stand just north of the highway and another about 1/8 mile further along the road. Both are large and level enough to accommodate a 30 foot rig. Although the website says fires not allowed, there are recently used fire rings at both sites. A BLM ranger advised there are other boondocking sites farther north, but the road deteriorates after the second site and we didn't explore farther.
