The place is awesome, but be prepared for rough washboard roads. We were pulling a 26 foot travel trailer and based on a YouTuber thought that campsite 2 would suit us well. Big mistake. We found it harrowing when trying to turn around because it was already occupied. It wasn’t worth it, so we stayed near campsite #9 near the overlook. It was so much better to get in and out. Loved it there. We saw good sized trailers go past us along the rim and camp and if that is what you want 9 is a lot better than 2 but still a rocky and rough road past the overlook.

Agree with msmull below about camping in the area to the right when you reach the ledge. We have a 30 ft trailer and were able to navigate into a good position. The area inside the fence probably supports about 15 visitors and we would not have been able move in there if there had been many other campers. Definitely walk ingress and egress if you are a little bigger. For smaller units, there are spots along the rim for miles to the west along a sometimes quite rocky road. Also for larger rigs, turn east at an intersection about a mile before the rim and there are a half dozen designated campsites along that road. These are big sites, not in sight of each other, not in view of the canyon, with pretty easy access on a pretty good road.
Agree with Virginian below about Buckhorn Draw. Well worth a visit. The road is as good as the road coming into the Wedge. Suitable for big rigs. The campground at the bottom had a few sites for big rigs but not many.
We spoke to the ranger about leaving the area either east on the Hwy 6 cutoff road or south to I-70. He said the road to I-70 is better than the Hwy 6 cutoff, which has some tight turns on the east end of it. Both roads were unoiled gravel. The road into the wedge is oiled because of the gypsum mine you pass on the way in. From Castle Dale, we went mostly 40-50 MPH to the intersection at mile 13, 30 MPH up the road to the Wedge except for 20 MPH the last couple miles. This is very good access.
The place is quiet, great views, clean pit toilets, good Verizon service, and for free! The Good Water Rim bike trail is about 15 miles of single track biking rated green. We are novice bikers and only did half of it. There are places where we were uncomfortably close to the rim. It was spearheaded by the previous Castle Dale Sheriff. He went over the rim one time to a 20 foot fall. He survived, but it didn't treat him well. It is a fabulous trail either hiking or biking.
This is a great area for OHV. Lots of suitable roads all over this country.
If I had to complain about something, it would be a lack of variety of hiking trails. It would be nice to have a trail down to the San Rafael from the Wedge, but you would have to rappel the Wingate at river's edge. You shouldn't hike on untrampled cryptobiotic, so we were limited to roads and the one trail. That said, we will be back to explore more of the area.

Gorgeous! Very quiet during the week, but gets busy Friday night. There is a 20 mile dirt road to travel to reach the area. Some parts are very smooth, others are washboard but doable. Pit toilets were clean. Dispersed camping is to the right when you reach the ledge. The first part is the most suitable for lower clearance rigs and there are scattered tables with fire pits. Maneuverability is tight and not suitable for large RVs. We did fine in our 25' B+ RV. Once you pass the wooden fence, it is only suitable for small rigs and those with AWD or 4WD as the road gets very rough and rocky. Good Water Rim bike trail starts and ends here. The trail is rocky and rough and suitable for experienced mountain bikers, but still worth checking out if you are not. Data and cell reception were good.

We stayed at camp #9 good spot but if you have a bigger rig like me I’m pulling 30ft toy hauler and it’s tight like real tight for some places good to maybe walk in see if you can get a spot you can fit but we took the rzr out definitely bigger easier camps for big rigs up by camp #4 and #7 area

First time staying at campsite #8. Enjoyed the quiet and access to the good water rim trail. Would stay here again. Did not see any mountain bikers Mon-Fri on the trail. Made for a nice morning walk.
Note: my guest towing a trailer said he'd have chosen a different site.

We stayed here May 31st and June 1st 2021. Weather was perfect. Clear skies, not hot. Comfortable, day and night. We went to the fork of the road at the rim, at the vault toilet. To the left is the overlook, no camping permitted. We went to the right and pulled into a spot in the trees on the right. There was a fire ring there, and you could see a couple of travel trailers through the trees 100 yards away when we pulled in, but once we backed into position and set up, you couldn't see anyone. Very few people there when we were there. Very quiet.
We left the trailer and spent a day exploring Buckhorn Wash Road. Fantastic! Dinosaur footprint in the rock, ancient pictograph panel on the canyon wall, beautiful scenery.
When we left, we were headed to Goblin Valley, so we took Buckhorn Wash Road to I-70. The road was great until we got to the bridge over the San Rafael River. Then it became dusty and so wash boarded that we were getting beat to death running 10 mph. I ended up speeding up to about 30 mph to try to ride the crest of the wash board. It was about 20 more miles to I-70 and I thought the trailer may not survive the beating, but when we got to I-70, a damage assessment revealed that all was well.
I would certainly stay here again if I ever have the opportunity.

Incredible! Epic views, I could see the bottom of the canyon from inside my RV! Turned right and took the first spot on the rim past the edge of the official campground. There’s a lot of dispersed camping down that road along the rim. Easy to drive if you take it slowly. Great cell reception. Not too busy and definitely quiet.

Dirt Road 36 miles coming in off 191, don't recommend coming in this way. Hiking is amazing, OHV trails are great. We love it here!, Verizon 2 bars, 3 with our cell fi booster. We would stay longer, but didn't plan that, and our water supply is low. Next stop the Tetons..
