Waterville Campground

This is a great place to camp in the NFS of the White Mountains. We were here on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the end of June and the place was about 25% full. There are a mix of reservable and first come sites. When reserving on Reserve America, the CG map is inaccurate. Check the photo images for this CG online and use that map instead. Sites on the outer ring closest to the river have good river sound but no real access to the river. Sites 25, 23, 22, 20 all have rocks blocking access to campsite with a vehicle so you can’t pull all the way in. The inner ring is nice, especially closer to the river as you can still here it and there is less road noise. (Sites 21, 24, and 26) There is also nice forest view from the back of these sites toward the center of the ring. Pay attention to location of sites nearer the road as there is definitely some road noise but it isn’t as bad as we have experienced at other CG. Most sites are large, level and a good distance from each other. It is in the middle of the forest so not much sun all around. We had a 21 ft van and there was at least one trailer here. There are no showers and only 3 pit toilets (2 at each for male/female). The water access is scattered around and is via a hand pump. Generator hours are limited to 2 hours each in the morning and evening. There is a path to walk to town along the river and several x-c ski trails within walking distance. You can also access the trail to Sandwich Mtn. by a short walk. We biked up to the alpine ski area to hike up Mt Tecumseh. It was a hard 2 mile uphill but we were rewarded coming back as it was all downhill!
