Up on the hill was the easier access for a 5th wheel. Lower area, you will need to drive past the driveway (due to sharp corner), pull into the upper camp area, turn around the drive into the lower area.
During our stay, it was extremely dusty. Wife was dusting inside the camper twice a week. Weekends where crowded. Most people just parked where there was room. Weekends had 2~3 campers in each spot.

The road into Washington Gulch is paved to the end of the small subdivision by Long Lake. After that it becomes a two lane maintained dirt road that is oiled for dust until the Snodgrass Trailhead. Past this trailhead the road narrows to 1.5 car widths and is very winding. Care should be taken due to blind curves and fast Jeep drivers. It is doable for any large rig if one goes slow. The road at this point is less well cared for but still passable for all rigs. The further back one travels, the worse the road becomes and eventually degrades into 4X4. Note: in early season the road may be blocked by snow or landslides.
All sites in this portion of the valley receive strong winds on most days.
This pull through campsite is full sun. A great site for solar or Starlink users. We had a bit of difficulty leveling left to right and had to use 3 boards under the right tires. The access road has a sharp turn so larger rigs may need to back into the area to access the site. This site is far enough back that it does not receive much blown dust off the main road. It also has nice views of the valley.

Excellent location with fabulous views. Better than Slate River location in my opinion. You can also keep going up Gulch Road for more off road camping or Jeep exploring etc. It can get a little busy on the weekends, but the location and views out way any distraction..it is a slice of heaven.

We stayed here on 2 different occasions, 2 14 day stints with a small break in between, and we would have stayed longer if we were allowed. This spot is pretty perfect. Decent forest service road leading into it, a short drive (15 mins) into town, hiking galore, easy access to drinking water, and amazing views.
The only issue we had is field mice, those little guys can find there way into anything! Make sure you are all sealed up, we had to get some live catch traps at the True Value Hardware in town.
The drinking water I was talking about earlier is available at the water treatment plant: https://www.campendium.com/crested-butte-rv-dump-station
Every time we would go into town, we would fill up our 2 drop cans and toss a few dollars in the pot.
