Question about Washington Gulch Designated Campsites 12-20

Donna asked on 7/28/2020

We are hauling a 25 foot airstream to this site in September. Can anyone give us a mileage estimate as to how far up the road we can safely proceed while looking for a suitable campsite?

Hi Donna, it's about 4 miles from where you turn from CR-317 to Washington Gulch Road. You'll know you are getting close to the campsites once you cross the cattle guard which is less than a mile from the GPS coordinates on Campendium. You won't want to take your trailer past the posted coordinates. I'd recommend watching the 360 video Campendium shot of the drive in to give you a good idea of the what the road and campsites are like: https://youtu.be/cH1eVVtqZ-M

Washington Gulch Rd is graded dirt, fairly decent surface. You will easily make the approx 4-5 mile drive to where dispersed camping is located on both sides of the road.

I have a very low clearance van. Its been a while, but I recall that there were many great spots off the main road. Once the road starts to climb sharply, don't go farther. I had to back down as there is no place to turn around. Also, lot of great spots in the valley, some roads are okay, some 4x4. Pick and choose. Lots of huge rigs closer to the road, but heavy atv traffic in the day
