Accessibility is not guaranteed, always scout ahead before driving down dirt roads. Learn more: Boondocking101

The road into Washington Gulch is paved to the end of the small subdivision by Long Lake. After that it becomes a two lane maintained dirt road that is oiled for dust until the Snodgrass Trailhead. Past this trailhead the road narrows to 1.5 car widths and is very winding. Care should be taken due to blind curves and fast Jeep drivers. It is doable for any large rig if one goes slow. The road at this point is less well cared for but still passable for all rigs. The further back one travels, the worse the road becomes and eventually degrades into 4X4. Note: in early season the road may be blocked by snow or landslides.

The road degrades past this site. There was a large tree across it during the visit but otherwise it is a large site that is fairly level. It does have some near neighbors which is its only downfall.

“Great Views.. Challenging Road”

Naturally, all of the easy to get to spots were taken..even on a weekday. I had to go past the "narrow and steep road" sign. I got to a point where my citified van was unable to cross deep ruts and had to back down. A less than tolerant 4x4 truck blazed around me. Again all campsites were taken except one that seemed like I was in a fishbowl. Dust, ATVs, dirt bikes and 4x4s racing by. More traffic on this road than at my home . Being exposed 360 degrees made it a challenge to take care of biological necessities. Now I know why this location was open. And I sure didn't appreciate all of the broken glass on the ground. Slobs. I picked up a lot, but it seemed to be everywhere
