There are shady and sunny sites and sites with and without sewer. Clean showers and bathrooms, nice, large commons area and playground. I gave noise 4 stars simply because our site was on the main road. Honestly, though, it wasn't all that bad.

The campground was very nicely laid out with shaded spacious sites. The most sites if not all, are big rig friendly. The town of El Dorado is 10 minutes away with a full array of big city stores.
Definitely would recommend!!!

We usually boon-dock/park on our long drives, be we decided to try to find a site for Friday night in mid September, since we were driving by about 6 pm. The front gate booth to the El Dorado State Park was open and they had first come first serve availability (they call walk in) in the Frontier Refinery section. It seems about 70% full but there were plenty of good spots to choose from. We booked 2 nights since it was so nice. Cost was about $50 for 2 nights, which probably included the Kansas park pass. We have full hookups and a flat site. The only negative was that we had to pick the site and leave the trailer on it before paying, which meant we had to unhitch. The Frontier loop is a long way from the booth. That’s part of the decision to stay 2 nights. The parking is on gravel, with grass and trees between sites. The site backs up to a pond. Bugs not too bad, with a few mosquitoes showing up after dark. Did not use the park bathrooms.

It was nice to have some trees after driving through the plains. The sites are flat and the park was quiet. Make sure to know which campsite you are heading to as there are multiple entrances. The women’s restroom was not very clean. The city of El Dorado is close for amenities.

I overnighted there on the 9th of Feb. Very cold, but water was working well with high pressure. Flat and level gravel pads with good spacing between. There were several long-term campers who look like they have been there a while. The facilities looked modern from the outside (I did not use them), and the Eagle Pass loop has a very nice, large, and new playground for the kids. There was also a very nice little laundry building and 3 very cute cabins.
Watch out for the $5 vehicle fee (if you don't have a KS State Park pass) and the $3 "processing fee" that will be added to the base camping fee. The price for my one night was $24 base, $5 vehicle, plus the $3 processing fee. Total = $32/night.

There are walnut trees everywhere! to the point we never really felt the kansas wind. The sites are decently spaced, around 10 to 15' between. however, we did see a couple sites that were right next to each other!
The Walnut Area has 3 camping areas. two of them have full hookups and the last only has electric and water. The dump station is conveniently located next to the exit drive.
