“Easy, quiet and peaceful”

Reviewed Feb 21, 2016

Overall Rating

We camped here for 2 nights in order to have easy access to Flagstaff and the Walnut Canyon National Monument. We were not disappointed. The road itself was packed mud, not too bad to drive slowly. Some of the camping areas were off limits to us since we're pulling a 30' trailer. The edge of the road where it meets with the driveway... more

We stayed in two different areas here. The first was 35.180413, -111.496030, off the road to the left, and was a very quiet and private spot but unfortunately the Verizon signal wasn't strong enough. We drove down one more FR entrance on the left side and camped about 200ft up the road at 35.182226, -111.495997 after a weekend camper... more

Date of Stay: May 2015 Walnut Canyon offers great boondocking/dispersed camping 10 miles away from downtown Flagstaff and 1 mile away from the Walnut Canyon National Monument. Water and dump station available as noted in Aluminarium’s review. This was actually my first boondocking experience and I joined 2 of the other reviewers ... more

“Nice and quiet”

Reviewed Jun 25, 2015

This was a good area for me, nice and quiet and very little traffic. Good dirt road access to the sites. You have your choice of places to camp on both sides of the dirt road. Also very cool, is your a hop, skip, and a jump from Flagstaff if you need to re-supply. Walnut Canyon is very close and would check that out if you have the tim... more

This is a great place to stay due to it's proximity to Flagstaff. It appeared that some of the sites are nicer than others in respect to scenic views and privacy. The site I was parked in was a full of broken bottles, trash and used toilet paper (yuck), but hey I was parked next to some new friends, so just picked it up. Some nice ... more

“Dispersed camping minutes from Flagstaff”

Located in the Coconino National Forest, Walnut Canyon is a fantastic location to dry camp just southeast of Flagstaff. An array of forest service roads litter the broader area, affording a campers a number of options. We split our time between two sites, located about 1/4 miles apart. Coordinates to the area: 35.181809, -111.49655... more

“Great Free Camping in Flagstaff”

Reviewed May 13, 2015

Our first spot was a wide open gravel area where we fit 3 Airstreams and a class A. After 2 of the rigs left, another RV that we didn't know, parked uncomfortably close to us so we ended up moving. About 1/4 mile down the road, we found a much nicer spot that had better views and was much more scenic. The Verizon signal at the se... more
