“Safe place”

Overall Rating

I have stayed here several times. I stay at night, get up and go in to the store, wash up in bathroom (or I go somewhere else to do that) buy what I eat for breakfast and go skiing at Monarch Ski resort. During the summer I do the same thing but it is during the river fest (fibark kayaking competition) which has bands, festival in the park, a parade I think Friday morning, awesome shops and a little carnival. I love Salida!
If you want a full shower you can go to the hot springs indoor pool and pay I think $5.00 for a shower.

“Quiet parking at smaller store”

Reviewed Sep 23, 2016

Overall Rating

The best thing about this WalMart is the 360 degrees of mountain views best viewed from the rooftop of the store, if you could get up there. This is a smaller store so you might not find things you can get at other stores. Shared the lot with a few RVs and a couple semis. Police cruised through occasionally. Parking is somewhat sloped on left side but mostly level on the right side.
It's a couple miles into the old downtown area where there is a very nice riverwalk still in the process of being extended. It's a popular put-in/take-out area for kayaks and rafts. Across the river, it looks like there may be some mountain biking/hiking trails. Downtown has bars and wineries and restaurants and coffee cafes and art and antiques and an old movie theater. The neighborhoods are full of eclectic old houses. There seems to be a small homeless population living in the trees across the river. They were friendly with me. There's enough here to fill a day or two.
3-4 bars Verizon 4GLTE. 5 bars T-Mobile Edge roaming.
