“Wonderful County Park That's Close to Rockford and Grand Rapids”

While visiting family in the Grand Rapids area, we decided to take a break from driveway moochdocking and head to a local campground for the weekend. We stayed at Wabasis Lake County Park due to its proximity to the quant, downtown area of Rockford, and the Rogue River for trout fishing.
Wabasis Lake is an extremely well-cared-for and nicely laid out county park on the western shores of the 400-acre Wabasis Lake. Sitting on a small hill overlooking the lake, the campground is grassy and surrounded by trees. Fourteen of the 60 sites are full hook-up (W/S/E), with the rest being either primitive or electric only (although all seem to have a shared water connection nearby). Of the 14 full hook-up sites, ten were paved with nice double-wide parking spots—the remainder were gravel. Of the primitive and electric only sites, about half appeared to be paved.
The bathhouse in the FHU and electric loop was impeccably clean and very modern, laid out like a nice Michigan State Park with men’s and women’s bathrooms and individual, co-ed shower rooms that were modern and clean, with ample hot water. The park has a decent playground area that our son enjoyed, as well as plenty of trails for walking the dog. There was a nice camp store and dump station, as well as boat docks; rental cabins; and primitive, walk-in campsites in the woods.
The campground is located about 10-miles from downtown Rockford (15-20 minute drive, depending on the density of raid-borne farm equipment you encounter en-route!) If you go into town, check out the beer selection at Rockford Brewing Company and take a stroll along the Rogue River on the White Pine Trail. Also, the location makes for convenient trips into Grand Rapids (Beer City USA).
