Viking Lake State Park

We stayed 5 nights and although we enjoyed ourselves because it is a spacious park with lots of room to ride the way they operate FCFS is different than most states. We would have stayed longer but someone snagged the one FCFS site next to ours and although they payed for about 10 nights they only did that to secure a site for the Halloween weekend special. Seems to be one of the few states that allow you to pay for a space but not occupy it. Good on the person who snagged the site but now someone who really wanted to enjoy the park is left out because of someone’s selfishness. Other than that good facilities and very clean. The camp host was super annoying buzzing around in the golf cart intent on checking each empty site 10 times a day.

We stayed in Site 19, which is a FCFS site in the loop up on the hill. We skipped the lower section near the water because it was just too packed and noisy for our tastes.

25% of the sites are FCFS with envelope payment. That's great for serendipitous travelers.

The grounds were well-kept and the wife thought the showers were hot w/ great pressure. The 30 amp was fine, and there were plenty of hydrants around to fill the fresh tank before getting to electric-only sites.

The only downside is there's a train track to the south. Trains run regularly. No horns, though.

We arrived at Viking Lake State Park the last week of March. There are full hook-up sites and electric only with water in several areas. There are 2 dump stations, hiking trails and restroom facilities. Off season rate for electric only is $11.00. The lake is beautiful with some of the full hook up sites right on the water. This place is big rig friendly although you may have difficulty finding a level site. Site 11 on the upper tier worked well for our Class A . Good Verizon signal and excellent wifi throughout the park..$12.00 gets you 3 days of excellent wifi.
