I’ve camped at this spot for the better part of my life. There are some bonuses like being right along the river but the cons are many. Let’s begin: they recently nearly doubled the fee from $7 a night to $12. No hookups or water of any kind. Only 7 spots. Half are on the river. The vault toilet is nasty and is frequently used by mostly fishermen launching or pulling out. The worst part is that the dirt road going in and out is right next to the camp spots. The fishing guides and shuttles fly through here crazy fast starting at the crack of dawn kicking up dust. I have two little kids and I’m afraid they could get run over by these idiots. All in all there are moments of peace and tranquillity between the shuttles but this narrow strip could use at least some water and better toilet.

The West side road from Ennis is paved. The road from 287 is a wide gravel road which is in good condition. It may not be after three days of rain though! Excellent views east and west. I'd call it big rig and solar friendly. I forgot to check my phone but I'd be surprised if there wasn't Verizon and T-Mobile because we're getting fast speeds in Ennis. It's the same price as other FAS sites-$18 without a MT fishing license, $12 with.

We tried to get there on 7/31/19 and the bridge from the highway was closed. Only way to access was to go back to Ennis and take the long way. We didn’t bother.

Located near the Varney Bridge, one of the few river crossings between Ennis and Yellowstone Park, 50+ miles. C/G is far enough off the highway (#287) to be quiet and relaxed. Fishing is excellent right outside your door. Hungarian Partridge plentiful for the upland bird hunter. Driving farther up the roads into the Gravely Mtns you will see signs about "Fair Chase" lion" (mountain lion) hunting.
Sites are well separated, gravel and a bit dusty when vehicles come thru sight seeing. Otherwise, it is very remote. One morning we awoke to noises: Barking, whistles, yips and shouts sounded out of place. A look outside brought into view a cattle drive with horses, herding dogs and P/U trucks driving several hundred cows next to the c/g headed to the bridge. The cattle were going to their winter range. Yee Haw little doggies!
