Vandenberg SFB FamCamp

We camped here in a camper van. We just needed a place to stop for the night after attending a friend's, son's high school graduation. We didn't make a reservation but opted to dry camp in the short-term camping spaces, $10 in 2023, first come/serve. There were 20 dry camp slots available so we risked it. Two slots were occupied; used to store a couple of RVs and looked like there been there for a while... the RV tires were low and a rust shadow forming under the rigs. Still, there was plenty of room for a last-minute stopover. The roads to Famcamp needed some work. Our low-riding van had to overcome a few pot-holes around the park. You also need a code to use the restroom; they were locked but another camper helped us out. However, the restrooms were very clean and well-maintained. The base is pretty much empty on the weekends. We stopped and visited the very large and nice commissary and bx and loaded up with groceries before heading home. We also visited Solvang, which was about 45 mins from base. You'll need some kind of military affiliation to access the base.
