Overall Rating

The rest area is closed but the camping is not. The only built structure off the exit is the rest area so that is why it is marked as closed on the highway. The road is open.

Just take the exit and you will see a road called Shrine Pass that leads to camping. The road is quite rocky in parts. We went slow and were fine in my subaru forester. As you go down the road you will see places to camp. We continued on the road and kept right at a fork and went up a hill on the side of the valley. The views were amazing. Better than I expected. The elevation is 11K feet though, so catching my breath was hard. We only spent one night as we were just passing through. No cell reception with Verizon at all!
