"Lotsa Wildlife, lotsa trains too"

We saw beaver, pelicans, swallows, cormorants, Canada geese, turtles, gulls, pigeons and the occasional fishermen. Train on the other side of the river comes by every so often, so bring earplugs. Pit toilet is odor-free. Upper Toston... Read more

"Windy windy windy!"

The windmills should have been the first clue. Everything is perfect, but when we were there, it was really windy. Check it out; apparently it is not so windy.

"Right next to a lake!"

Odd but nice. Odd because the sites are unnumbered and in random spots. Clean pit toilet, water, bear-proof dumpsters. Next to a lightly-traveled road. Sites have table and fire pit, but no water at individual sites. Campground seems mainly... Read more

"Odd location for a campground "

This is a well below average USFS campground which we chose only because the nearby State Parks were filled up. One night was plenty. Pluses: $10 a night, $5 with the old fart pass. Cleanish pit toilets, very few mosquitoes, water (but not at... Read more

"What a pleasant surprise!"

It’s everything that you want from a campsite, but FREE! Spotless campsite, nearly empty, quiet, lotsa shade, cleanest pit toilet that I have ever used.

"Always a good experience"

I stop off here once a year just after Labor Day. It is popular now, thanks to the errant publicity, but rightly so: it is a wonderful campground and attracts like-minded folk; birdwatchers, fisherman, etc. You will see wildlife whether you... Read more

"Nice spot!"

Most spots are pull-through, a couple of spots (only) have shade. Pit toilets, good picnic tables, fire pits. Most here were in RVs or 5th wheels; I was the only one in a VW Bus. A bit of road noise, but the vehicles passing are on a flat,... Read more

"Not that far from Winnemucca "

I thought that I wouldn’t find it, as there was no “real” address that my Garmin understood. But just head for any street number on Water Canyon and keep heading south; you’ll run into it. The good: Free! Modern pit toilet, dumpster for... Read more

"Windy. Either very hot and windy or very cold and windy."

This makes a good "en route" site when you're doing I-5, but it is not for "pleasure" camping. It is very windy most of the time. Windy enough that I didn't dare build a campfire. But, it's cheap and somewhat quieter than staying in a rest... Read more
