"traffic on the weekends is not only heavy but fast and inconsiderate"

The campground is one of the oldest CC camps around. But it is huge and bicycle friendly unless you ride on the main road to the picnic and pool area. The traffic on the weekends is not only heavy but fast and inconsiderate. Dangerous. AT&T... Read more

"Another 5-star campground!!!"

Another 5-star campground!!! Flat trails for bicycles, beautiful views, great sites, privacy, clean showers, and very close to historical sites like Martin Van Buren’s home in nearby charming Kinderhook.

"we were only here for the attractions"

Vermont is quite beautiful. And what is striking is the absence of billboards and advertisements along the expressway. Welcome and uncluttered forested views abound and the mountains are sublime. But the rain was relentless and heavy at times.... Read more

"a bit of a disappointment due to the heavy rains of late"

Fort Dummer State Park was a bit of a disappointment due to the heavy rains of late. The park was pretty, but basically unusable. The mosquitoes were quite bad so sitting outside under the awning enjoying nature was not possible. But our sleep was... Read more

"a bit apprehensive due to the warning regarding the active bears"

On our 78-mile travel day from French Creek State Park to Hickory Run State Park we detoured to the birthplace of Daniel Boone. Unfortunately Bob the Dog has been sick for the last three days with diarrhea and who knows what. Having a sick dog and... Read more

"About a mile or two away was the Hopewell Furnace National Historic site and the main reason we were here."

Gorgeous bucolic and mountainous landscapes on our 136-mile drive from Boonsboro, Maryland to our next campground in Elverson, Pennsylvania. But first we stopped at Gettysburg to do the auto tour of the Civil War battlegrounds. We saw most of this... Read more

"Too large and populated for our tastes."

We pretty much traveled the back roads from Powhatan, Virginia to Greenbrier State Park in Maryland. Though the entire 161-mile drive was gorgeous, the section of State Hwy 709 (otherwise known as Zulla Road) was stupendous. The winding roads, old... Read more

There is no shortage of 5-star campgrounds throughout this beautiful country of ours. But I have to tell you, Powhatan is unique in its layout and relative newness. This coming September of 2023 will mark its anniversary celebrating ten years of... Read more

"another comfortably remote and heavily treed piece of paradise"

The 98-mile drive from Stony Fork Campground in Wytheville, Virginia to Greenbrier State Forest in Caldwell, West Virginia was just beautiful. We often take as many back roads as possible. Occasionally we have had to alter our course due to an... Read more

"a five-star campground for aesthetic reasons"

Driving along on SR 717 into Stony Fork Campground reminded me of my beloved Huron National Forest in northern Michigan. The biggest difference being the mountains and hills surrounding this camp in Virginia. But the feeling is the same. Beautiful... Read more
