The hike up Boykin Creek from the lake was wonderful. The creek bottom is a fine sand and the water is ankle deep. It goes through the forest and no bugs.
Everything is in a poor state of repair. Electric boxes torn up, but water turned on. Pay-station looked unused for awhile, but a camp host came around to collect. Outhouses were all closed. The campground is by the lake.
Stopped to sleep for the night and a game warden came around at 8 pm. He told me camping was no longer allowed and I had to leave. Hunting and fishing still allowed, but no sleeping.
It was first come first serve. Now it is online reservation only. I stopped there but I did not have a reservation or internet access , so I could not stay.
Stayed the weekend at the end of April 2022. Plenty of empty sites. Some with electricity, with no extra charge. Good hiking trails. There is flush toilets by the beach.
Camped at the end of April 2022. The campground was empty except for me. The water was at every site, but not turned and not potable. Large camp sites for horses. Nice hiking. near river for fishing. A nice quiet place to camp.
