"Boondocking update 10-25-19"

There is still boondocking behind (NorthEast) of the RV Park, but be aware that the racetrack (closed) that was there last year is demolished and gone. Construction fence is still up and the whole site is an active construction zone (see pics,... Read more

"Quiet, peaceful, place to unplug...literally"

Finding a site with electric is a challenge prior to Labor day. The website is not updated properly, hosts on site have more of a handle on what is open and what is reserved. Plan on spending one night in a primitive site and check in with hosts... Read more

"Jeep, truck, high clearance vehicle ONLY in DRY weather"

I scouted this road with my tow car today, to see if I wanted to bring the 38 foot diesel pusher out there. I could have made the road easier in the RV than I did in the car (Pontiac Sunfire). The road is very well signed going through the Zia... Read more

"30&50 amp, gravel, fairly level, dump station w/ potable water, no shade"

Business renamed 12-2017 to Black Mesa Casino, formerly known as San Felipe Casino. RV lot is laid out sparsely. Power pole setup has two rigs on one pole, each with it's own power box. One rig will face southwest, opposing rig will face... Read more

"Eight miles out of Salida, difficult road for towed car & hordes of MICE Aug 2017"

I LOVED the view, the peace & quiet, but HATED the mouse invasion in late summer. I had two no kill traps, one of which would be standing room only (5-9 of the little buggers) every morning. The upside was they kept one dog entertained for HOURS.... Read more

"Dry camping only during winter $12/nite"

Previous reviewer was lucky to get a serviced site. Camped in Feb 2017 when all the serviced sites are occupied by worker-camp hosts. One full service site was empty when I checked in, but they save it for 'camp hosts' during the winter,... Read more

"Cheaper and easier to use than Forest Service dump"

I used Poncha Springs for dumping and water from July-October over the Forest Service dump site, even though it was further to drive to in some cases. It was easier to use in the early summer because they had a major forest fire in the area. The... Read more

"Homeless encampment, drug users, dust from raft companies tearing up road"

I worked in Salida last summer so the positives of this camp were it was easy to drive in/out and close to work. The view from my first site was stellar, even if it required serious leveling with blocks riverside. I visited two different times in... Read more
