As of March 2020 the gate is chained shut 7pm-6am. Plus Google Maps tried to take me down a cow path for 2 miles to get there before I rerouted. Save yourself the trouble.

There was no one at the ranger booth when I arrived and no way to self check-in... the sign says "find park staff". Also, no alcohol, smoking, or vaping allowed, and pets must be kept on leash.

There is free camping available ad hoc on the grassy, large sides of the boat launch parking lot, anywhere you don't see a sign saying "No Camping". Rules are maximum camping 3 days in a 7 day period, no campfires, tents and gas stoves allowed....
