"We prefer Palomino"

This was our second stay at Caballo. The park has multiple areas, and this time we stayed in Palomino which has better views and full hookups for $8 (with state park pass). This is a great place to recharge and dump after boon-docking. We were... Read more

"Excellent dark skies, fun trails"

We stayed here while headlong to big bend. Although I would have had trouble find enough hiking for a week, it was great for a day. I would like to return for more. I did the rim trail and saw many white tail on the way back. The staff was very... Read more

"Not a bad stop over "

This was “on the way” and met our needs. The park is pretty well run and has the facilities of most state parks: it used to be a SP. The trails were reasonably well maintained, but given the time of year there wasn’t much to see. The river walk... Read more

"Close to SP"

After experiencing the complete failure of the bureaucratic National Park, this private park in a resort town was a relief. We didn’t use the resort (horseback riding, golf, etc.) but instead used the park as a jumping off point to the State Park... Read more

"Pretty good site with great beach access"

Like many, we drove past the reservation office and had to go back. We had no luck using their web site or phone number so we took a chance and just showed up. In December. We found a site available just across from the costruction site / rest... Read more

"Empty of people: full of birds"

We stopped for the night and had a nice walk along the mowed and blacktopped paths. We saw deer, eagles, vaulters, cranes, a warbler, and lots of LGBs. The spots were easy to get into, and the facilities fine for a stop over or longer stay.

"Quiet"

We stayed near the boat launch in November. There was plenty of room. It was clean and very quiet with lots of room to walk. Riverside to the south has more for kids. We paid $4 with our state pass which includes water, 30 amp, and free dump... Read more

"Many options for all"

The canyon is in a state park surrounded by a wildlife management area. There are several options. Some have hookups, garbage dumpsters, bathrooms, and grey water dump stations. Others are set up for tents and have only tent pads and bear boxes.... Read more

"Excellent site with great camp host"

The road to get here was very narrow and twisty, but people were very patient. The site has options for sun and shade with good hiking all around. The camp host runs a tight ship and even locks the gate at night so I doubt thieves will be a... Read more
