Question about Upper Teton View - Toppings Lake Dispersed Campsites #8 - 16

KaraD asked on 6/29/2020

Hi, We'll be staying in Jackson at an RV park the previous night because we won't arrive in town until 4 or so and figured any spots at Upper Teton would be taken by then. We're thinking about heading up there about 8 am on a Tuesday morning (mid July) are there spots open in the early AM? Just wondering if we should skip the possible extra drive and just head to Gros Ventre where we'll likely get a spot. Thanks.

We stayed for 5 days at Upper Teton and each day spots were open between 9-11am and began to fill back up early afternoon and were full by late in the day.

It is usually better in the morning and early in the week so you should be able to find a spot. If the main area is full there are additional spots down the road.

would probably be more open spots if you wait till 9am. it is worth the trip to go there. stop at the lower section first to check it out. upper section gets a lot of traffic and is a one lane road up. you get some great views from the lower section also.

Hi, honestly it’s always a gamble as the sites are all first come. There are several campsites available on the upper areas and the plateau is kinda a free for all so it might be worth scouting it out. FYI this is dry camping and there are no facilities or water. The views are incredible and worth the chance for a spot. Best of luck!!

Since there are no check in checkout times, I would think there will be more open in the afternoon as people may be out exploring whereas they will be waking up at 8am. I've been there when people arrive long after dark and leave really early. There's just no way to tell. Arriving on Tuesday or Wednesday is best, so if staying at an RV park makes it easy on Monday and getting up there later in the morning on Tuesday when others have broken camp, you're likely to have the most options that way. Good luck!

It's worth a look. Places like that seem to have less people during week days but that spot has become more popular with time.
